Hi Jenny,

just saw your post and wondered, have you tried contacting Edinburgh Council Burial Records dept.?  Try this link but if it's no use they may be able to help put you on the right track.

http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/655/death-graves_and_memorials/664/cemeteries_and_churchyards/2

As you have the funeral details from The Scotsman, you'll have an idea of when he died (or scotlandspeople may give you an exact date).  Even without a headstone, there should be a record of who is buried where.  I've contacted several councils in the past and although some are more helpful than others, you usually get the info you want, (they may ask a fee).

Good luck,
Ali

The address

parks.burials[at]dundeecity.gov.uk

is the correct one however it does take at least 5 days to reply.  You can get one basic search, (it provides who's in grave/location) for free as long as it takes less than 1/2 hr.

For more searches/info or if it takes longer to trace the info they charge £26.50 per hr.

Obviously it's best to have as much detail as possible before you contact them to keep the price down!!

I have a phone no. for them (not sure if you can post numbers on here), so if you still have problems PM me & I'll send it to you.

Good luck,
Ali

Hi John,

thank you so much for the offer but I've managed to locate the grave through some kind people on a Birmingham website.  I only got the details in the last couple of days but I really appreciate your kind offer.
Keep checking back though.  I may post another query re this grave as I'm now trying to find out if the person who bought the grave also put the stone up !!!

Many thanks,
Alison

Does anyone know if there are MI's for Yardley cemetery?  I've contacted the cemetery itself & they've provided me with info.  but they don't have a note of inscriptions.  They suggested looking in the library but I can't get there. The details for the grave I have are:

Matilda Jackson
Died 22 Jul 1951
Buried Yardley cemetery, section 61

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Duncarse House was another place used as a children's home/orphanage in Dundee, (Perth Road area).  It was used from 1924-1950's but unfortunately no records survived for here.
Go to local.history[at]dundee.gov.uk   They were very helpful to me and I'm sure will assist with your query.

I am wondering if anyone would be able to take a photo of a gravestone for me.
The stone is in St. Ninian's churchyard, Buckie, Morayshire and is for a Maureen Jackson.  There is an inscription on the stone which starts "A rose on earth..." but no dates, however there is supposed to be a rose engraved on the stone.
I have the stone ref. 219a if that helps.

I would appreciate it so much. Thank you,
McGraw

Did a bit more asking around today & Blankets is still a farm today & in fact I know the people who own it.  I will ask if they have any info on it or if I can get a photo for you, if you'd like.  Bare with me & I'll try my best.
