Many thanks. If you click on the photo it will open up my photobucket page and on the right side there is a magnifying glass icon to enlarge it.

Agnes Carlyle was Williams wife, his son John became the convener of the seven trades of Dumfries.

Is there any reference of where he lived of where the shop was? Also if he was William Irving younger does that imply that his father was called William as well?

Many thanks again

Stephen

Many Thanks Roger,

I had not looked as far afield and this looks like a very strong candidate. Looked at it on street view, may very well have been an Inn in the past. Had a look at the 1841 census, looked to have been a private house, home to a Joiner and his family.

cheers

Stephen

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your reply. I will have to go to the library in Caernarfon to see if they have a copy of the book. I will have a look out for your Grandfather.

many thanks

Stephen

Hi Alan.

I am looking at possible locations of an Inn or brewery in Llanedwen where my ancestors lived in the 1780s, it was called Penygroes or Penygroeslon.

Because of the location of Ty Newydd it is possible it was built on the original site of the above Inn.

Do you know when Ty Newydd was built?

I have found Fingar Farm and Ty Newydd on a map dated 1889. I also have checked census returns for 1841 and cannot find Ty Newydd for that year.

regards

Stephen

Thanks.

One line of investigation I need to look into. Penygroes does seem an unusual name for an Inn

Hi Gilly

Thanks for replying.

I have looked at the small hamlet.

I believe there was a ferry between Moel y Don and Felinheli before Menai Suspension bridge was built.

Could be that Penygroes Llanedwen catered to passing travelers.

Would very much like to know where in the parish it was located.

regards

Stephen
