London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: George Augustus Cavendish

George Augustus Cavendish and Adeline Eleanora Cavendish (nee Gerald) had 8 children as far as I can make out... Do not seem to have an Elizabeth unless Louisa's middle name was Elizabeth?
George Ponsonby Cavendish - 1826 as previously mentioned
Louisa   c1828
Henry c1830
Frederick Augustus Cavendish - 31.10.1833, bapt: 07.03.1834 St Luke, Chelsea and bapt 27.02.1839 St James, Paddington (???) unless there were two of these, I suppose the first one could have died or maybe he was just baptised twice?
Alexander Charles Cavendish - 23.03.1836 Marylebone
Matilda Henrietta Helen Cavendish = 28.05.1838 - Q4 1842 Marylebone
Aurelia Emily Cavendish - 03.10.1842 - Q1 1843 Marylebone
Adeline Henrietta Eleanora Cavendish - 11.11.1844 - Q4 1844 Marylebone
Augusta Adeline Mary Cavendish - bapt: 18.02.1849 St Philip the Apostle, Stepney

The children's names sound well to do?

As I mentioned before most of the family, apart from George Ponsonby Cavendish (I think)  emigrated on the Arlington and landed in New Orleans, Louisana on 23.04.1849

Brill, will def keep in mind. Where do you think the Ponsonby comes from as it is the middle name of George Augustus' eldest child? Do you think it could be the maiden name of George Augustus' mother or grandmother? I do think that what you have listed could be possible but then why would George and James have been born in a different county? When George Ponsonby was born (11.06.1826) his father George Augustus Cavendish is listed as a seaman so I guess he could have been posted around the country?

Hi Carole,
mmm, saw that. I think what my friend wants to find out is whether she is related to "the" Cavendish family. It's strange but when I got the transcript of George Augustus Cavendish's it said there were two witnesses: J Cavendish and Elizabeth Powell. I found a James Robert Cavendish in the 1841 Census living in Portman Place, Marylebone, same road as George Augustus Cavendish.  James had a daughter, Helen who was baptised in a church in Chelsea and I know it seems strange but most of George's children were baptised in Paddington but Frederick Augustus Cavendish was baptised in St Mary's Paddington and then was baptised in same church as Helen, St Luke, Chelsea so bit strange. Anyway, James is in 1851 Census listed as an Clark to an Army Agent (not sure what that is) and puts in place of birth as Linton, Kent. It is a real puzzle. I think maybe George and James were brothers but I have no concrete evidence as of yet and of course I do not know who their parents were.

Monmouthshire / Shepard Family of Usk
« on: Sunday 17 May 09 00:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone have any information on the Shepard family of Usk? The earliest I can find is John Shepard (c1785 - 1861) and his wife Hannah (I don't have her maiden name or when or where they married). John was a Solicitor and I am particularly interested in his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Shepard (1821 Usk) who married George Ponsonby Cavendish in Camberwell in 1848. I have no idea what Mary was doing in Camberwell as all their children apart from their eldest child were born in Usk. Mary's siblings were born in Usk and were solictors and surgeons so I know the Shepards were a good well to do family. I know that the eldest son, John Philip Reece Shepard(1813 Usk)  became a vicar and that his sister Caroline, married John Fleming who was also a vicar. I would just love some background on the family and if anyone can help I would be very grateful. I have a friend who is directly related to George and Mary Cavendish's son, George John Fleming Cavendish so any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Vicky

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / George Augustus Cavendish

Hi,
I am trying to trace the family of George Augustus Cavendish. I am unsure who his parents were but his first child was George Ponsonby Cavendish born in Marylebone, Middlesex. George Augustus Cavendish married Adeline Eleanora Gerald in St Martin in the Fields on 23.08.1825 but the records do not give their parents names. George was born circa 1805 and Adeline circa 1803. The family are in the 1841 census but not 1851. I have discovered they emigrated to St Louis in Missouri in 1849 with the family's trade listed as farmers???. I know George Ponsonby Cavendish seems to have remained here while his siblings and parents emigrage. GPC married Mary Elizabeth Shepard from Usk. There are gaps in the history and I just wondered if anyone has any information that would help me.  Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Vicky

Norfolk Completed Look up Requests / Re: 1851 Census Norwich

Hi Aelf,
Oh my goodness what a very complicated piece of information but I was told that Emily Knights was going to take a lot of working out and looks like you may have been just the person I was waiting for. I will need to digest the information you have given me and then pass it on to my friend and then on to another lady who I know will be fascinated. My friend and this other lady are related to Matthew and Emily Rix (nee Knights). Thank you ever so much for taking the time to copy your research to me. There are many odd people who research and never want to share that with others, why I have no idea but you have shown what I have known to be true of many. Like me you are willing to share what it has taken you months and years to unravel so again thank you very much. My friend Sue and her mum will be thrilled as will I am sure the Rix Alliance people who they may be meeting up with at the end of this month in Norwich.

Hi Anna and Valda,
I am going to take your advice and just plump for the Frederick George Sheppard birth. Hopefully there will be a match. Otherwise I will apply for one of the other children's and see just who their mother was. Your help and advice has been invaluable so as ever.... thanks very much. I will let you know how I get on and / or if the certificate leads to any further confusion.

Vicky :)

Repeating my previous post

'Have you discounted this birth registration?

Births Mar 1884
Sheppard  Frederick George     Islington  1b 251'

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda,
No, not discounted it BUT and is a big but..... In 1881 Charles Edward Shepherd was a widower with two small girls. In 1891 he is married to an Elizabeth and the only marriage I can find is Elizabeth Shore and they married in Shoreditch in Q2 1887 so she cannot have been Fred's mother unless he was born Shaw but I can find no birth for him with that surname to fit. Do you think there was a marriage in between that resulted in Fred?? Otherwise I think I will just have to take the plunge and go for the certificate you have suggested. Would like your input on the mystery tho....
