Look forward to it! Hannah Barry married Patrick Kelly at St. Catherine's, Meath Street on 16 November 1890 (Living at 29 Marrowbone Lane at the time), and died at the Hospice, Harold's Cross on 31 May 1946 (Living at 29 Clarendon Street, Dublin with her daughter Rosalind (Linda) Kelly). She had nine children in all, and was buried in Glasnevin. Her main address throughout her life was 132 Cork Street, where my grandmother Annie Kelly was born on St. Patrick's Day 1899. This is a photograph of her paternal Aunt, also called Hannah Barry (born August 1851, and baptised at St. Nicholas of Myra, Francis Street)

Hi Dubchick, Yes, Hannah Barry was my great grandmother. There was also another brother John, who we think was a gardener at Powerscourt.
Drop me a line sometime - would be great to hear from you!

I've just received a copy of my great great grandparent's marriage entry. John Barry and Catherine McGauran (sometimes McGovern) at St. Catherine's, Meath Street - Sept 15, 1866. Catherine's address given as 40 Chamber Street. Her father was Ml. McGauran, Labourer.

Thank you very much for that Josey. At least it proves that there were more than one Murray family in the area at the time; though possibly cousins.

Very useful information to have.

Many thanks,

Eoin

Hello Josey,

I came across your post below and was intrigued. Is there any possibility you could share any of the information you received from the Parish Priest in Murragh?

Only last week I managed to find the marraige entry for one set of my Great-Grandparents - Florence Hallahan (Killowen, Murragh, Co. Cork) and Ellen Murray (Dromovane, Murragh, Co. Cork) married at the Roman Catholic Church of Newcestown, Murragh on 9th Februray 1907. Ellen's father is listed as John Murray (alive). Ellen's sister Mary Murray was a witness at the ceremony.

I would be very curious to know if a John Murray appears as one of the 11 children you found.

With best wishes,

Eoin

Hello Su,

Thought I would let you know how I got on!!!

I wrote to the parish priest in Murragh & Templemartin with an addressed envelope and an international reply coupon.  He kindly replied with the marriage date of Patrick Murray & Mary Holland in Jun 1876 & the births of their 11 children from Apr 1877 [Johannah] to Feb 1897, all in that parish.  BELIEVE IT OR NOT - this is cannot be 'my' Patrick Murray & Mary Holland, as I have the birth and baptism records for their last 7 children from 1883 [my grandfather Joseph] to 1894 [my great aunt Mary] in Cavan and Dublin.  'My' Patrick & Mary even had been married in 1876 AND had 11 children too, according to the 1911 Dublin census, of whom their eldest was called Annie and 6 survived.

Just goes to show that you cannot make any assumptions in genealogy, also how common some names are in Ireland!!!
