The Common Room / Re: No Father on birth cert
« on: Tuesday 27 November 12 13:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All

My Grandfather has "Illegitimate" on his BC. He was the youngest of eight children by Sarah, she seems to be a very interesting lady. Four children born to her husband, the next three all have a caveat on their BC which says;

" Sarah Dempster wife of John Hutchison. Declares for the purposes of this record, that he is not the father of this child, further that she has had 'no' personal relationship with him since they ceased to live together around the 20th March 1882."

At the time of my Grandads birth they had a lodger, one Archibald McLuskey, (1901 Census) a miner from Ayrshire. Always wondered if he is in fact, my biological Grandparent?

There is a chance if she claimed "parish" that she would have had to declare the father, but have not got there yet.

Seems lots of us have the proverbial skeleton in the cubboard?

Hi aghadowey

Thanks for this, it seems they are in Altrest not tamnabryan? But I think is defenitely the right ones, my Gran was Francis. Very scary to see Roberts grave report. I only had very scant details of him.

Gives me a great starting point, thanks again

Donegal / McDaid-Docherty, Tamnabryan

Hi, I am looking for information about my Mothers family in the Tamnabryan area?

Grampa 'Bob', was a well known figure and was a boot maker, he also ran a small farm. The next farm was ran by the Mather's family. They had 8 children, most of them left home in the early 40's, Isobel stayed in the family home till her death I believe. Veronica lived in Lifford, Donegal.  Robert was killed during WWII. Frank lived in New Buildings, Derry. He was a bus driver. He had three children. Any help would be appreciated

Hello All

Forgive me butting in but, I find his thread very interesting and coincidental! My Gradfather was Robert McDaid from Tamnabryan, Dunnalong, he was a bootmaker and ran a small farm, he was married to Chrissie Docherty?

It seems the same names keep coming up! Don't know if there is any connection but thought it was strange the names are very repetitive.

These are really good pics! Funny I remember Cambuslang/Eastfeild/Kirkhill area well, my first girlfriend was from Eastfield & most of my school mates. Ah..happy days, long gone! Everything leads back to the area between Hallside and Mill St Rutherglen. Getting a really good picture of the last three generations.

Newtownards is the registration district but may not be where the marriage took place.

Unfortunately Irish certificates do not give the same details as Scottish ones.

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.

Thanks very much, just what I need, Have to agree, searching Irish records is not easy? We will persevere!!  Alan H
