Hello Kirsty, Going through some family photos and found one with a lady in it named on the back as Kate Galloway, it is probably from about the 1920's or 1930's. Got anyone with that name, around that time?? PM if you need a copy of it. I noticed the name Hawthorn in your pagelist are they from Castle Douglas?             Regards....................Alex

Hello Judy & Carol, I don't know if either/both of you are interested, I've been sorting through the old photos that I have, and I've found two or three of David and Rosanna (martin) Marshall & and a daughter Kate,if you are interested I'll email them to you both, they have been authenticated some years ago to me by their last surviving son William  I'm also sending copies to Keith. So let me know ladies!!     Regards.................Alex

Occupation Interests / Re: Where to search for Master Mariner's records

Hello, Before 1845 there wasn't a registration system for masters & mates, according to the N/A Kew leaflet that I got the last time I looked in those records. they are easy to look through, and are well written(at least the ones I looked at were). They are under the BT/      section. I suggested to someone else on this forum, that googling 'merchant navy' brings up a lot of forums which are directly related to the MN, and I'm sure must be useful for researchers.           Regards...........Alex

Hello Louise, the National Archives at Kew has the officers service records of the Merchant Navy from 1845-1965, as far as I'm aware they're not available online so you'd have to go there to read them, or get someone to do it for you. If you Google 'merchant navy', you'll get a list of the forums that are related to that service, and I'm sure there'll be lots of people willing to help you on them......Good Luck................Alex     PS all the docs. at Kew, on the merchant service are under the heading BT/  I think they were under the old Board of Trade......
