Wexford / Re: Eaton family last known in Kyle, Wexford

HI,

I have the death record of my g.grandfather Alexander Eaton - school master, death at Kyle, Crossabeg in 1892. Does anyone have access to the school registers of any of the 3 schools in Crossabeg please? He was C of I, but widow's address listed as Saon (Sion) which was the National School

thanks Eliana

Jill,

Thank you for this  :)

I have been lucky enough to find at the National Archives my grandfather's service record which suggests he only served in Britain for his 7 active years between 1901 and 1907. I am trying to work out the actual regiment, which is not clear from his records, although it is clear it is Artillery. Does anyone have any idea of which regiments were stationed at Athlone in 1901?

My grandfather seems to have travelled a long way to sign up - his mother lived in East Wexford in 1901 and he was born on the West coast. All very strange

regards and thanks
Eliana

PS - young children so not enough time to enjoy my favourite hobby of genealogy, which is why it is a long time between postings!

Hi,

Does anyone have any information about the Royal Artillery at Althone. My grandfather joined in 1900, and was discharged in 1912 - but I have no other information. Did they stay in Ireland mainly - or go to England/abroad.  Any information that would give me a sense of what this meant to him would be great

thanks

Eliana

Wexford / Eaton family last known in Kyle, Wexford
« on: Tuesday 27 June 06 00:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have just found that my g.grandmother moved back across Ireland and is listed as living in Sarn (or Saon), Kyle, Wexford in Nov 1900, possibly with her daughter, Ellen.

My grandfather gives this address when he signed up to join the Royal Artillery at Althlone - but is seems a bit far away - would an 18 year old have travelled so far to join? Prior to that he was a garedener. Does anyone have any information on Kyle or the Eaton family in Wexford at this time. I believe that my g.grandfather may have died here in about 1892 - he was a scripture reader for Church of Ireland previously.

Can anyone help?

thanks Eliana

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Northumberland census lookup

Wow, yes please. I feel I have struggled with information on the Pigg family. My grandmother (Dorothy Pigg, daughter of John Richard Pigg 1855 - 1947, son of Adam Pigg 1813-1888) ran away from home to mary my grandfather and always said her maiden name was Pegg (she even amended her birth certificate!). She did not give my father much information on her background, other than the Newcastle/Gateshead connection.

I would love to find out more about the family - especially any family stories. It would mean a lot to my father and aunt to know more as well.

regards and thanks

Hi,

- Anne-Marie thanks for your information. I would be interested in any information on the Sides/Sydes family from the parish registers. I am so pleased others are looking at Mountmellick as well.  :D

I have actually visited the town - been to the Church of Ireland church and the village hall, which used to be the school hall. Opposite is the Masonic Lodge and interestingly many of the graves in the CofI church have Masonic symbols. Even though I visited, I struggled to find concrete information. The one thought came from a lady there who pointed out that with the Irish accent my 'Sides' family was also known as 'Sycthes' and various other version. They all sounded the same to me!

I didnt find the Quaker links on my brief visit.

regards

Eliana

Hi,

I am looking for a record of a John Robert Sides (Sydes) born in 1841 - possibly November and according to old family tales, in Mountmellick. The family left for England soon after and we have limited information - probably Church of Ireland

If anyone can help....

thanks  :D

I know that my grandfather was born in Ballymacelligott in 1881, called Francis Eaton and his father was Alexander Eaton - schoolmaster and bible reader.

I have been searching for the deaths of Alexander and his wife Elizabeth with no luck. Also looking for any information on schools (where would he have worked) and any stuff on Ballymacelligott - photos etc.

Can anyone help?

thanks Eliana
