Hi i'm Janice the 3rd older daughter of Ray. Dad was given the Medal for his involvement with Rugby league in New Zealand. The 3 boys were very good sportsmen Uncle Eric played Rugby & Sailed, while Uncle Basil was a very good softball player like Dad. He was 10 years younger than his brothers so was spoilt by them and Grandma.
So we 6 girls were bought up doing lots of sports. Dad has only just sold the family home in Mt Eden Auckland and moved with our wonderful stepmother into a village.
He still is very active in Rugby league and if you google his name there are lots of information on him.
They grew up down the road in Punga St Mt Eden Auckland.

I have found some photos in my Mothers photo album which include photos labelled Basil and Fred, Eric and Edie, Fred, Basil Edie and Eric, on same page is Ray who is standing with Prize Cups he had won.  It would appear that Basil is the father of Fred, Eric could either be a brother or son of Fred and Ray a son of either Fred or Eric.  I am very keen to see where they fit in with my mother's family as they are referred to as cousins  Her parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Cranch who originally lived and had their 8 children in the Carterton area from where a number of the children married and the others married from Cambridge area where their parents moved.  There must have been a close relationship between the families for photos to be in the family album and for studio photos to be sent to Elizabeth Cranch and family. One studio photo is of a young Fred Cranch with his wife and two boys, their names confuse me a bit as the toddler is Basil and the baby old enough to be sitting is  Eric.   A big question for me who was Basil's father.  I have come across a William Cranch who married a Miss Goldsworthy and had a daughter Maria at Thames dated 1868, they are also a puzzle.  It appears from an English Chatroom that Maria is connected to someone in France who has not responded to the email my English connection sent, but who had expressed interest in Maria's parents names.   Any help would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD
