Please can anyone find any information on Clarence George Chittleburgh Born 1897 Wangford Suffolk. On his WW1 medal record he has changed his surname to May, the record was changed in 1921. On his marriage bans july 1918 he crossed the surname chittleburgh for May.
his marriage cert gives his Father as Ernest may.
In 1972 he was called George May & he won the Macdougall award  it was to do with poultry.

Thank You.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: marriage reg 1873.
« on: Saturday 26 September 09 20:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello, Regarding marriage cert 1873, Re Charles, Capel May & Ernest May.
Well I have now looked in the Parish regcords in Ancestry, and it appears that the marriage names have been changed. From Charles to Ernest in 1924. with John May & Ernest May as witnesses.
In the margin on the marriage cert it gives the details of the change. Hence Ernest being added to the marriage records after.

Would the change be legal and if it is would there be legal documents for this,?.

Has anyone come across this before in there records?.

I thought that the marriage cert was a legal document and could not be changed.

I would like to know why Ernest and Charles changed. I cannot find a Charles Capel May in the family

Also they have changed the fathers name and added Capel to it.

please help.

Thank you Cockneylass

hello Rick,  What made me think that Harriet was born Bayford was by looking at a Ancestry family tree, who had Harriett marrying Joseph Allen in Hackney, it said that she was the child of James Pallett and Mary Mardle. It was only when I recieved the marriage cert that her father was William.

Joseph Allen came from stapleford herts.  Do you think I am in the right area?  or should I go to london and look for Harriet?.

Thank you for your time and input.

Hi.
I found the baptism entry for Harriett in the Bayford PRs at HALS and can confirm that her parents are recorded as James and Mary.

Hello Peter, All I have to go on is Harriet's marriage cert 1842 17th April, Married in Hackney Father William Pallett, a Gardner. Harriet was living in Dalston at the time, which is near Hackney .
but thank you for looking for me.

Please can you help with marriage reg 1873 April/May/June.  Poplar

On the page there is a Charles Capel May reg No  1c  1196.

But at the bottom of the page hand written is a Ernest C May reg No 1c 1196a.

What does it mean two people with the same reg no.
