Hello all....... trying to find out any information about my Grandfather Joseph Conlan and his parents.
He was born in Ballybarney, not far from Crookstown in 1906, his Father was Patrick Conlan and his Mother was Mary (Connor), Patrick was down as a Farmer in Ballybarney on Josephs birth certificate.
Any help no matter how small would be fantastic.

My Grandfather was about 35 yrs old so was eligible to vote, so i'm just assuming my Grandmother was around about the same age, well hoping more than anything. If so we might just pick them on the 1941 electoral roll.

Thanks for your replies both.....It's hard work being over here in England, searching for people in another country.
Last visit home i went to the church where she would have attended, they had nothing. The electoral roll is probably my last hope at the minute. I tried both addresses where my Mother and her brother were born, they didnt appear on them.....such a shame, as the only electoral roll i can find online for Dublin is the same year my uncle was born. I dont think my Mother had a brother, Joseph (Jun), but i will certainly keep a note of this.
I'm going back over in a couple of weeks with my sister to have another look, in particular the 1941 electoral roll.... i'm hoping they appear on that one and it might just clear up the whole name thing....maybe Stanley was a middle name.

Hello all, sorry it's quite long but here goes........ if i may explain....my Mother has recently discovered that the woman she believed to be her true Mother, is in fact not. From what we can gather, her eldest brother and herself are children of JOSEPH CONLON and STANLEY CONLON nee PRENDERVILLE ( could be CONLAN )....whilst her younger sister was the child of JOSEPH CONLON and ANNIE CONLON nee LYNCH.
We are very confused as to the name STANLEY but the only documents we have are copies of my Mother and her brother's birth and baptismal certificates (4 documents all wrote at different times), where it states without question the Mothers name is STANLEY CONLON. In fact the experts at the national archives had a look, and all agreed her name WAS Stanley.
STANLEY died in a 3 month period between June 1941 and Sept.1941, when Joseph remarried 19/9/1941. Quite possibly she died as a result of pregnancy. We were initially quite shocked by how soon JOSEPH remarried, but the experts also assured us this was not uncommon for a man left with children, to find a surrogate mother so to speak. Joseph Conlon died in Dublin 30/1/1950.
My Mother was only a new born when her birth Mother died and only 9 when her Father died, and whilst loving very much the woman she calls Mother who brought both her and her brother up, she feels she owes it to Stanley to try and find her grave. In fact she has never been back to her Fathers grave since she was 9, something that leaves her heart aching.
My sister and myself have been searching for both graves for a few years now, but with no success, and finding any information on Stanley Prenderville has proved impossible with neither my Mother or her Brother knowing anything about their childhood, as they explained....it just wasnt spoke about after their Father died.
My mother is not in the best of health and this has caused her some distress, however she has expressed a wish to find out as much as she can about Stanley, with the hope of eventually visiting both her Father and Stanleys grave.
It would be wonderful if anyone on here could shed a bit of light onto any of this for us.

I wonder if any of you wonderful people could have a go at fixing this wedding photograph. It is of my Mother and Father in law and sadly its the only one she has. I recently took it out of the frame to copy it, on the back it says it is a photocopy which has been coloured ( not very well ).

Many thanks for all your time and effort......it's really appreciated. I too thought the photograph looked quite modernish, but it's definately them. They both only married once....( got the wedding cert ), but she would have been in the family way at the time...maybe that explains the large bouquet.
