Perhaps the "E" is a clue, but I'm afraid it means nowt to me.

Thanks anyway.

Well I got my Grandma's birth cert and sure enough, no father's name is given, so she was born as Beatrice Annie Robinson. Must have had her name changed when Pa Grocock married Sarah Ann Robinson,

Hey ho. Looks like I'll never find out about that leg of the family.  :-\

Cheers

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1871 Census lookup request for Stockdale
« on: Friday 05 December 08 13:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, Could someone kindly lookup the 1871 Census record for 29 Ginns Cockpit, St Bees, Whitehaven, Cumberland?

I'm looking for the Stockdale family. I did a search on Roots UK for William stockdale but it only gave me the second page (grrr) with William 11, Ellen J 9, Moses G 7  and Hannah D 2, but not the parents or other siblings.

Thanks for any help provided.

I've found a record of death for a Sarah Grocock registered in June 1843 in Basford Notts.

I'm wondering if this could be John's first wife and Reuben's mother.

Dig, dig, dig....

Thanks for your efforts guys.

I think Suz has nailed the correct set of Grococks in 1851, as all the pieces fit. Amelia as Daughter in-law with grandson Reuben (who must have lost a few years by the time of the 1871 census!)

I'm kinda confused by the Grococks you found Evie as the address and main man are the same, but everyone else except for Reuben, is different. I guess John must have swapped wives / families somewhere along the line! Reuben's age is a couple or 3 years out, but I suppose that was fairly common back then!

Looks like I'm going to have to do a little digging to see exactly (!) what went on here.

Thanks again both!

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841 / 51 Census Lookup for Reuben Grocock Please
« on: Tuesday 02 December 08 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm trying to find some more detail about Reuben Grocock (Snr) in the 1841 & 1851 census records please.

From the 1871 Census, I calculated that he was born around 1823 and that he was a joiner. I'm trying to discover more about his parents if possible.

By the time of the 1851 census, he'd married Amelia Cooper and they had a son also called Reuben.

Thanks in advance

You are almost certainly correct about the birth record Tati. I don't know how I missed that one myself!

Anyhoo, even if I do get Beatrice Annie's birth cert, there's no guarantee the father's name will be given.

Got to be done though.

Thanks again

Paul
