Many thanks that has been driving me crazy!
However it now trows up a slight problem.
Mary Ann Dovey has a child on the 1881 census (ref as before) who is called Lilly BADMAN born in 1875. this is not possible...did she maybe marry another badman and if so when? I do have her death certificate which shows her as age 75 when she died in 1950. also if relevant the informant is henry J Badman (brother) of high street gilfach goch, glamorganshire.

Can anyone help tracing the husband of Mary Ann?
I am having real problems with this one I  have found her on the follwing census details:

1841 (HO107/967/1 Folio 12 Page 17)  Axbridge
1851 (HO107/1937 Folio 156 Page 19)
1861 ( RG9/1674 Folio 71 Page 11)
1871 (RG10/2463 Folio 15 Page 14)
1881 (RG11/2422 Folio 77 Page 11)
1891 (RG12/1922 Folio 8 Page 9)
1901 (RG13/2327 Folio 13 Page 18)

She is listed in 1861 as a "soldiers wife" but by 1871 is widowed.
Any ideas as to when/ where he could have been killed or a marriage certificate would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone help with  this!
I have my GG grandfather's marriage certificate which  shows:
Eliza Lewis married to William Griffiths in Dowlais Glamorganshire.
Eliza was born in Aberystwyth in 1860 and her father is listed as Jenkin Lewis (also born Aberystwyth area).
Jenkin Lewis was an innkeeper at time of marriage 1880  (bear at Dowlais)
I have been able to find them once moved to glamorganshire but no record of them in aberystwyth.
any pointers greatfully received

Do yo have any Griffiths there?
Family story is william (born 1840 ish) or maybe his father (name unknown) landed on a ship  from ?? and worked there before moving to tonypandy.

This is listed as the birthplace of my grandfather in 1919.

That does seem to fit but as you say very easy to make wrong connections with  common surnames.
marriage cert. gives mother as Eliza Griffiths formerly Lewis.
I also know that David Henry Griffiths had an older brother Morgan which also fits. There were also 2 sisters but not sure of names  "ginny" has been mentioned. "janey" maybe from mary jane?
I really wish I started on this while family members were still alive to ask!
