Hello from New Zealand

Did you have any success with your query as I would like to see if these HORNELs are connected to my HORNELLs from Glenluce and Castle Sinniness? That is chn of William HORNELL 1805-1862 and Janet MUIR 1804-1873

Regards
Jennifer

I'm researching James Hornell (1865 - 1949), the zoologist, who was a cousin to Edward Atkinson Hornell, the painter, but I am having trouble linking the two cousins and wonder if anyone knows their relationship.  How were they related - 1st cousins, 2nd cousins?

Inverness / MacDONALD family of Croy

Hello from NZ

My g grandfather has erected and stone in Croy Cemetery
On the top it has 1859
The inscription is:
Erected by John MacDONALD, Mains of Croy, to the memory of his father and mother and of his son George who died in infancy.

What I am keen to learn is the date when his parents died.
The parents were
John MacDONALD
Mary FRASER
Their son John MacDONALD was born in Dores  15 Oct 1835
George the son died 05 Dec 1876 Leuchars, Fife, Scotland
I have searched on Scotland’s People trying to find the deaths but as yet have been unsuccessful.
I have been to Croy Cemetery and photographed all the MacDONALD headstones which are altogether in a little patch.
John the son who came to NZ with his family in 1883 was a policeman in Croy and Inverness 1866-1873 (many thanks Dave for this info)
Prior to this John was a farm servant and 1873-1883 a police constable in Fife.
John senior was a shoemaker according to the son’s death certificate. John jnr died in NZ.

Thanks in anticipation
Jennifer of New Zealand
