You may be interested on an item for sale on Ebay - it's a receipt from Artis, Poulterer of Motcomb St.

If you use the search terms - receipt poulterer motcomb - it will be listed.

Dear Sylviaann,

Thank you so much for doing that for me - it's much appreciated.

Sadly, the "James'" don't seem to be mine, which is a shame as I like the sound of the Goose Feeder !

But I'll keep the info in case they turn out to be siblings

Many thanks

I've found a John & Hannah Payne both aged 40 on the 1841 Census in Finchley - I think his occupation says baker - the ref is HO 107 Piece 663 Book 1 Folio 10 Page 12.

Also, a death registration for Hannah Payn in Shoreditch in 1840 in the 4th quarter volume 2 page 269.

These could possibly be your Hannah so may be worth following up

Good luck

The Common Room / Born at Sea - 1811 to 1813
« on: Wednesday 15 October 08 07:41 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor Francis J Manning is listed on 1851 / 1861 / 1871 / 1881 Censuses as "Born at Sea" or America and sometimes as a British Subject.

On his marriage cert his father is given as Francis Manning (marble polisher)

Has anyone any ideas how I could track down his birth ?

Or in what circumstances his mother could have been at sea at the time ?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received
