This is a strange request I realise but we’ve just found this photo amongst my grandads things. It certainly doesn’t look much like Scotland where my grandads family moved to.

Does anyone think it could be of Lithunia. Apologies for my ignorance but I’ve got no idea if it could look like it or not.

It has what looks like ‘The Mall Marascar’ written on it but I could be reading this wrong. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for those links. I think I've tried all those forums though. Do you have any tips yourself for finding any information on Lithuanian ancestors. I saw you were researching that yourself?

Thanks

Aha that might explain it! Any ideas where I'd look either online or physically?

I got so excited at finding these had been released only to find nothing, how disappointing!

I'm looking for an Antonas Matiozraitis and and Elzieta Dielinizaitis who emigrated from Lithuania to West Lothian in Scotland around 1902 - 1904 I'd guess. They aren't on the 1901 census and were married in Scotland in 1905.

I was sure they'd be on one of these lists but I can't find anything but I am just being rubbish at using the search fields???

Help!

Europe / Immigrants Registering at Police Stations
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 13:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I'm at a bit of a dead end, I seem to have tried lots of different online searches, ancestry, national archives, jewish gen etc but I really don't know how to find where my great grandparents came from in Lithuania or Poland and without that I can't really go alot further.

One lead I haven't followed up is that someone said they would have had to register at the local police station. Would that police station still hold the records or would they have been moved elsewhere?

Any final suggestions on where to find info on Roman Catholic Lithunians coming to Scotland around 1901/2.

Hi Justin,

I'm fairly sure they were Roman Catholics actually but someone suggested looking for the name on Jewishgen anyway.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
