Hi Andy,

Thanks for leaving your post, it is great to hear that most of what I have is correct and to correct the errors. Researching from overseas is not ideal, but the hunting is so addicitive I keep digging!

Many thanks

Cheers

Hi Janet,  :)

Lovely to hear from you, it is terrific hearing stories of the old days.

I am wondering whether the Ned Holloway you refer was inactual fact a great uncle. My great grandfather Edwin (Edward) did have a son Edward Holloway who married an Ellen nee Jones (I believe). Edward and Ellen married in 1927 and he was a miner @ Ifton also. They had a daughter Ann and a couple of sons Glyn & Gerald (I think their names were).

Siblings of Edward (Possible Ned) were Margaret, Edgar (my grandfather) and twins Cyril and Mancel Holloway.

Would any of this sound familiar ?  :)

Cheers

Hi  :),

I have a little more information re my grt grt grandmother - Ellen Annie Elliott (nee King)
1911 census - shows her still living in Lambeth & born in Paddington in 1860

I was hoping someone may be able to do a birth lookup for:

KING    Annie Ellen         Kensington    1a   3

Fingers crossed her father is called Edward King

Many thanks

Jayne   ;) :)

Hi,

Anna, you are probably right, I will see what I can find, thank you.

I had not found that death notice before, but it certainly fits the picture. Hopefully it may uncover a little more information.

Many thanks

Jayne

Hi Andrea,

Sorry it has taken me a little while to come back - I had to find the census details reference numbers!! Located them at the bottom of the page - always something new to learn!!

1881 - Reg: 11/138 5 3 - ???
1891 - Reg: 12/92 19 31 - same as you
1901 - Reg: 13/106 13 17

1891 & 1901 are correct as my grt grandmother is born and living with her in both these censuses along with her sister.

I am hoping the 1881 is her, as 12 Little Marylebone St, is just to close to where he soon to be husband is living in 1881 at 2 Little Marylebone St.

The marriage certificate details are as follows:
Date: 7 Sep 1881
Husband: Alfred George Baker Elliott
Age: 29 years
Condition: Bachelor
Rank or Profession: Butcher
Residence: 2 Little Marylebone St
Fathers name: Alfred John Elliott - Bookbinder

Wife: Ellen Annie King
Age: 21 years
Condition: Spinster
Residence: 17 Nottingham Place
Fathers name: Edward King - Deceased - General Dealer

Married in the Register Office by Licence before Frank Stokes register and Joseph Bedford - Superintendent Registrar

Witnesses: Elizabeth Poulter & Tho Ansell

I have been unable to locate a will for Alfred, however, I will follow this up. My mum's cousin is quite definite that Ellen did not remarry, and that she died in 1929.

Any help would be terrific.

Many thanks

Jayne

I am looking for my grt grt grandmother Ellen Annie King - can not find her on the 1881 & 1871 census or a birth record.

I have finally found out the name of the father  - Edward King.

I have also found out that in September 1881 - Ellen was living at 17 Nottingham Place, Marylebone, however her father had passed away by then.

I am getting a little confused as family tell me she was born around 1860 in Oxfordshire and she lived around Watlington. The marriage cert says she is 21yrs in 1881, which verifies 1860.

However, I have found her on the 1891 & 1901 - say she was born in c1862 in Paddington, London. The 1911 census shows her being born in 1860. It is definitely her in 1891 & 1901 census as my grt grandmother and sister are living with her.

I think I have been staring at this to long. Can anyone help to lift the haze ?!

Many thanks

Jayne   :) :)
