i am looking into my grandfathers naval service record during world war two,i know a few ships he served on hms,hotspur,scout,truelove,vanquisher,fortune and eskimo,but thats about it,any other info would be most helpfull.

bingo ,my nan is 85 she told me her dad was born in liverpool,there was two marriages.my nan s mother was alice m hughes,we live in barnsley.this has to be them,so donalds father was from argyll and bute in scotland.name john mctavish

thats my great grandad donald william mctavish,i wonder were he come from having a name like that ,my nan told me he built the railway line in welshpool so he could be from out of the area,i would say scotland.

i got him on a census return in galway in 1911 and he was 56 years old.i still have an 85 year old uncle alive and he told me about the maidstone connection

my great great grandfather was a man named george king believed to be from the maidstone area,i think he was in the british army and he went to serve in ireland in the 1870s and finally settled in galway ireland with a local girl,any help on the king family would be apprieciated

i was digging around and found a marriage entry for martin ryan and bridgette butler in 1875,seems they werent galway people,martin was from borrisoleigh in tipperary and his wife from pallas in tipperary.there are thousands of ryans and butlers there.intresting.hope theyre the right ones
