If you have ancestors from Chippenham in Wiltshire, or are interested in the history of the town, you may like to buy a copy of my book. It is available on Amazon at the link below;

I am currently writing my next book, which is about the surrounding villages.

South Africa / Marriage records on Familysearch.
« on: Wednesday 01 February 17 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find the marriage of Frank Robertson and Mary Dorrington?
They were a Catholic family from Strand, Somerset West, Cape Province. Frank was born c.1879 in Ireland.
They had Five children; George, Michael, Patrick, Ivy and Joseph. I know that Ivy was born in 1910, so I assume they married before then?
Are the unindexed Cape province marriage records on Familysearch complete?
Any help would be great!

Thank you both for your replies. That makes perfect sense to me now! I have two death notices for the family so i still feel quite lucky.

South Africa / Death Notices

Hi, just wondering if everyone would of had a death notice as well as a death certificate?

I'm looking for John Henry Watson who died in 1921 in Cape Town. I have his death certificate, but a death notice could potentially have more information.

Gloucestershire / Prison records - What exists?
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 21:37 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if any knows what is available for Bristol? one of my ancestors, Frances Condon, had numerous scrapes with the law and was quite notorious. The newspapers have been great, but I'd be interested to know if a criminal record or prison record existed.

Thank you so much for this. I found my wife's great great grandfathers record, which listed his other children and wife's maiden name that we were not aware of.
The records are difficult to search, but they are all indexed in various ways. They are much more accessible than the other S.A. records that you can browse, because of the indexing.
