Dear Jorose,
Thank you so much for the information. I have been trying to find a death date for Rose J. Aloncle, and I have been unable to do so. The Castle Garden informtion is also so very helpful. It now occurs to me that opticians would have made all sorts of things, ie opera glasses in the 19th century. I so appreciate your efforts.
The family left Paris to come to the U.S.
George Aloncle went on to become an accomplished NYC police detective, and I've found articles about him. It's funny how two people can search one database and come up with different results. I searched Fulton History many time using just the last name, and did not see the 1855 piece.
Thanks again.

Thank you, all. We believe that my grandmother, whose name was Elizabeth Pearl Josephine Searle, was born around 1883. The family can find no birth certificate, and when she applied for a passport in the 1930's, a relative had to go down to the passport office and attest that my grandmother was born in the U.S. I was always told by my mother that her grandmother's name was Rebecca McAldridge, that her mother never knew her mother, and that there were 13 brothers and sisters, possibly some in Ireland, but 5 in the US in Brooklyn, NY.  Of my grandmother's siblings, we find one other listing a McAldridge as the name of his mother. This would be James Searle was born in the 1870's (don't have the info hand).  Other siblings list other surnames for their mother including Boyd. It's all very confounding, especially since McAldridge records seem scant. I have the impression that my grandmother's father married several times and that there were at least three mothers. Thus, if Rebecca McAldridge's husband had died and she remarried Alfred Searle, she could be the right one.

Hello, Sorry if I don't quite get the hang of it yet. I'm new at this. Looking for information on REBECCA MCALDRIDGE listed as the mother of ALEXANDER MCALDRIDGE listed in the IGI as      Birth:
16 OCT 1876      Antrim, Ballymoney, Cork, Ireland

I cannot find anything on Rebecca McAldridge. I see that a Rebecca Mcaldrige is listed here. I was always told that was the name of my g-grandmother but have contradictory documents which list my g-grandmother as Nancy McEldridge or Anna Mcaldridge. However, was always told the name Rebecca was the ancestor. I am wondering if she is really my g-grandmother or not a relative at all. This is the only place that I've ever seen Rebecca Mcaldrige mentiond.

Any information would be appreciated.

My grandmother was born Elizabeth Pearl Josephine Searle somewhere in the US, either in Florida or Brooklyn, NY.

I am also researching Clarke, Leddy, Searle, and Boyd
