Down / Re: Seeking info on Isabella McCune, Ballygowan
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 20:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello wacha,
I too have McCune ancestors from Ballygowan, and Kilmood and Ravara too.
James M McCune born 19 July 1871 in Kilmood lived in Ballygowan. He married a Mary Boyd? 1899. James and Mary moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1907 with their 3 sons, Robert, James and Samuel.
I believe that James was the son of Robert McCune who died 29 June 1900. Robert McCune was married to Ann McCormick on 1 September 1866 in Saintfield, Down.
And I believe Robert McCune was the son of William McCune who died 18 April 1860.
I found a William McCune and James McCune to be on the Tithe Applotment List for Ravara, Killinchy, Down in 1833. And there is a Samuel McCune who is on the Freeholders List for 1776 in Ravara.

I am sure there is some sort of connection between our McCune's. If any of this sounds familiar feel free to share any information.

Yeah I saw that entry too. I couldn't distinguish what his occupation was. This could very well be him. By this point he was naturalized, so he could be referred to as being American

Hello, I am presented with an issue I am not sure how to go about solving.
I have an ancestor named Edmund Duckworth (b. abt 1806 in England) emigrated to New York City in abt 1834. He married Catherine Beatty, born abt 1814 in Ireland, in New York City in 1835. Edmund was naturalized in the NYC Marine Court in 1838 and after that no record of him in the USA can be found. One of his sons, Samuel Ezekiel Duckworth was born in 1847 in Bogota, Colombia, and died in Brooklyn in 1917. His obituary stated that his father Edmund was United States Consul General to the United States of Colombia and later moved to Panama where he lived for some years. There are numerous records of his wife and his children traveling between Aspinwall, Panama, and NYC.
Sooo, my question is how would I go about finding a death record of Edmund Duckworth if he died in Panama? I am mainly interested in the birthplace, birth date, parentage, etc. of Edmund. If anyone has access to any Panama records, a look-up would be fantastic ;D. Otherwise, any ideas would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Ben

Thanks for the posts, they all helped. What baffles me the most is Hattie was born in 1854 in New York, and Edwina was born in 1860 in New Granada. With all the traveling this family seems to have done, I cannot find any immigration records as of yet. I found a record of Edwina D. Duckworth stating she died 15 Aug 1899.

Edit: I have found an immigration record of a Hattie Duckworth born 1854 in USA arriving from Panama on 3 June 1861 with a male named L Duckworth born 1842 in USA, his occupation is listed as being a merchant.

Other Countries / Duckworth in New Grenada help

Hello, I've come across quite a peculiar individual in my family who needs to be dealt with, and I am in need of some advice as to where to look to find out who his parents were.

Ezekiel Samuel Duckworth
Born: May 1847 in New Grenada (the former United States of Colombia)
Immigrated to New York in 1852.
Died: 30 September 1917 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York.
I have ordered a death certificate from Kings County Vital Records Office, and I am still waiting on it.
His father is listed as being born in England, and his mother in Ireland.
Based on the nature of his name I am assuming he was the son of a missionary.

Any help on how to research this and where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

Perthshire / Death Record Question
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 07:38 BST (UK)  »
I was reviewing a death record and became perplexed as to what I saw, and I was hoping you could help me out. I saw that the name of the deceased was listed as "Alexander McIntosh or Crerar" and the father was listed as "Donald McIntosh or Crerar" Why does it say "or Crerar". And furthermore what does the MS mean as listed next to the mother in the image?
