Hi Terry
a few years ago I was i contact with a man researching the same family of Jermyn's.  I have a copy of Edward Jermyn and Betsy Prout's wedding certificate.  Edward's father was John Jermyn who was born in Clonakilty, Southern Ireland in 1787, he married Ann Waugh b. 1788 who came from the Seven Heads (near Clonakilty) and they had 8 children most of whom were born in Ireland.  John and Ann moved to Padstow.  He was a Coastguard and lost his life at sea in 1833 (not sure of this date).  I am not sure if this is old news for you but I do have more info if it helps

Hi EDO

I am unsure which link you are referring to .  Is it the link between Charles the architect and William the Attorney?  I looked William up in "Kings Inns Admission Papers" but the entry is quite sparse saying only that he was an attorney in 1799.

If we assume that Charles and William were brothers, their father was Rev Edward Cottrell 1708-1788, who was the son of Alderman Francis Cottrell d. 1716 who was Mayor of Cork in 1703.  These links are documented by various leases and deeds.

You said that Richard was catholic.  Charles was protestant but the difference in religion does not surprise me as in my own family,Jermyn, there are a number of mixed marriages at much the same time.  Marriages between the same class may have been more important than religion.

John Cottrell is a new one to me but will be added to my list of unattached Cottrells. Any info you would like, just ask

Andy

Hi EDO
It appears that my own grt grandmother Elizabeth Cottrell 1836-1907 may well have been your grt grandmother's second cousin.

Elizabeth's father was Charles Cottrell (architect) whose business address was Wandsworth Bridge, Cork City.  In turn, Charles father was Francis Edward Cottrell, also an architect of the same address.

The reason that I feel that Francis the Architect and William the Attorney may have been brothers is in the registry of Deeds there is a lease dated 29th October 1804 concerning both Francis and William.  I will have to get a copy to get the full details.

Even though I live near Cork, I have found it very difficult to find any information on this family and felt that they had all emigrated.  There is another family of Cottrell's based around Baltimore in west Cork who are not related.
