Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Crampton

Hi Lilym,

Your Walter Crampton (1862) could well be the cousin of my great grandfather Mark Crampton (1854). I have Walter's parents as Nathan Crampton (1837) and Mary (1837). Nathan is the son of James Crampton 1800 (Crompton) and Betty Blackburn 1804 (Blagburn). My Mark is the son of Thomas Crampton (1824) and Betty Chadwick (1820), Thomas is also the son of James and Betty Crampton. James (1800) is the son of James Crompton (1770) and possibly Mary Buckley.

Rawrigds is Rawroyds - James Crompton (1800) died there in 1879, it is near Stainland/Outlane. James is buried in Outlane Church yard at the top end of the village with his wife Betty - along with some other Cramptons.

Swaite will be Slaithwaite, just over the hill from Outlane - pronounced locally as 'Slough it'.

I live in Huddersfield and have often wondered if there are any other Crampton/Cromptons in the area.

I am very interested to know if we have a link, I stumbled upon your post by putting Crampton and stainland into google.

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Wolsingham P.R.s - John Proud Death 1856

Wow thats amazing!!

I'm certain thats the John Proud I'm looking for as he was born in Ireshopeburn in 1794. I've been trying to find him for ages, even Bishop Auckland Reg Off couldn't find him. I thought he might have died in Wolsingham because his grandson was living there in 1861 census. You've got the right Sarah Proud as well, thats fantastic.
How did you find John, is there a MI for him?
I'm so pleased that you've found this, it's taken a good 5years or more. Cant wait to send for the death cert!

I really appreciate this.

Thanks,

Nige :D :D

Thanks Nannawilk,

Unfortunately this isnt my John. I've `lost' my John between the 1851 and 61 censuses. In 1851 he was living with son John and daughter Sarah along with Sarahs illeg son James. By 1861 John junior was married, Sarah had died in 1856 and James (apprentice tailor) was 13 and  living with a family called Horne at Dans Castle. Hard as I try, I cannot find John senior in 1861 so presume him to have died between the 51 and 61 census. Thanks for looking for me.

Durham Lookup Requests / Wolsingham P.R.s - Apprentices James Proud c1856
« on: Monday 19 September 11 22:17 BST (UK)  »
My 2x great grandad James Proud (bn 1847, Blackhill) became an orphan in 1856 when his mother Sarah died (no father on his birth cert). James was apprenticed to a chap called `'Horne' who was a tailor, and lived at Dans Castle, Wolsingham.
I am trying to find out if there are any references in Wolsingham PRs regarding the apprenticeship.

If anyone has access to the PRs I would appreciate it if they could check to see if there is anything regarding James.

Cheers,

Nige :)

Please can I have a lookup for the death of John Proud in 1856. He lived in Bishop Auckland but was buried in Wolsingham in 1856. He would have been 50/60 years old. He was born in 1794 in Stanhope but not chr until 1808.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
