The Common Room / Poor Law Relief Fund

Am I correct in thinking that parish Poor Law Relief contributions would be noted in the Overseer's Book? Also, how often were the contributions made, and how were they calculated?

Many thanks!

Hi, Queenie

Thank you so much for taking the time to help; I really appreciate it! I think you're more than likely correct, I just wish I could confirm it. Hopefully one day I'll get to visit the archives!

Thank you again!

Have you got her in 1851, 1861 and 1871  census? If her birth place is consistent and relates to where she married in 1829, it may be an idea to research the witnesses at the marriage, it is possible one or both were related and could provide a clue to her maiden name.

Thank you, that's a very good idea! She was born in very small village  according to the Census returns, and married for the second time in the nearest town, only about six or seven miles away.

Thank you again; it's much appreciated!

I'm assuming that you have the baptism records for the children born pre-registration, and that none of them indicate the mother's maiden name!  :o

No, I'm sorry to say they were extremely unimaginative! Not one of the offspring even had a middle name  ::)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Rickinghall PR baptism lookup, please - JAMES DRIVER 1805

I'm trying to find the correct mother of James Driver, baptised at Rickinghall Inferior on 30th April 1805.

There are two entries on FindMyPast. The first is transcribed by FamilySearch. Mother is Mary Driver, no father.

The second entry on FindMyPast (transcribed by Suffolk FHS) has more detail: bapt 23rd June, but the Notes state "bn 27 Apr; pb 30 Apr; recd", so I assume a private baptism was performed by a midwife or similar until a parish baptism could be arranged. Again, no father, but this time his mother is named as Sarah.

Only transcripts are avaiable on FindMyPast - no original pages have been scanned.

Could anyone help, please?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry, should have added that all her children were born pre-registration unfortunately! Thank you for the replies so far.

Please could someone tell me if a married woman's death certificate from 1874 (in England) would contain her maiden name? My 4x great grandmother married twice - the second time in 1829 and I can't find any information about her life previous to this, apart from her children's births with my 4x great grandfather!

Thanks in advance  :)

Ah, right, thank you! I wondered if something untoward had been added - two of his older siblings were born in Whitby in 1816 & 1818, baptised there and then baptised again at Acklam in 1821 with a new sibling!

Thank you again; it's much appreciated.
