Australia / Re: DISDEL b1938 - any help welcomed!

After a lot more research, a wild hunch (and a lot of luck) I've finally solved my mystery and have made contact with the missing branch of my family.

The suspected spouse's name was so unusual that I did a phone number search and turned up an address. It was hard to conceive that he was still alive, but I finally penned a very carefully worded letter in case a relation was still at the address. To my delight, his daughter is still alive and apparently their daughter in turn went on to have a family of her own.

Many, many thanks for the information gleaned from the Australian records by you all, without which I am sure that I would never made the connection.

Thanks for the suggestion Cando. If anyone has anything else to add please send me a PM.

Fantastic response, as ever, and many thanks to everyone that has contributed.

Thanks Neil, and Cando too.

I'm sorry if I've inadvertently caused an issue re copyright - the items were all free, so I didn't think there was a problem. Can you please advise how to remove the images? I can't see an obvious way.

Re the search itself, should I close the enquiry completely? It's a bit difficult to request help without the individual's name, and when I started I didn't think she was living (owing to the lack of hits).

I'll attend to the issues as soon as I get a response (which will probably be tomorrow, looking at the time)!

With grateful thanks, Hitchamite.

Doubtless you guys have noticed that there is just one family by the name of Klesel in Victoria at the same time?

Gunter Karl Klesel & Theresa Helen Klesel of Melbourne Ports / Higinbotham / Isaacs in Victoria.

Surely there must be a connection?

Again, many thanks for your input groom, and thanks for joining in Maureen!

I've now found the files you're both referencing and have tracked (*) Klesel until 1980. I do hope the trail doesn't run out at this point............

Very odd that there's a change of name without a marriage? At one point I did wonder if the name had been Anglicised (at the time of WW1) but since then I've traced the line back to 1800, so that can't be the case!

Thanks 'groom', that's fantastic news! I don't suppose there is any indication that she married and had a family? If we go onto a private chat, is there any more info you can give me? She is the only known member of a family line that wasn't even known to exist until yesterday, and I'd love to try and make contact!

Once again, I'm blown away just how fast you guys can root out information that I've failed to obtain over days!

Hi, this one has really got me puzzled - any help solving the mystery would be greatly appreciated!

B D was born in q1 1938 in Lewisham, London SE23 to FGD and GKN. Her parents are shown in electoral registers as living at 253 Devonshire Road, Lewisham until 1946.

On 21.05.1948 the family departed for Melbourne, Australia, on the RMS 'Ormonde' (Orient Line), address given as 298 Devonshire Road, Honour Oak Park, SE23 (ties in well with parents electoral register two years previously).

I have finally unearthed death records through Family Search for her father dated 02.07.1966 (Mt Waverley, Melbourne) and for her mother on 06.05.1974 (also at Mt Waverley, Melbourne) but she simply vanishes. I've tried Ancestry, Find My Past, Genes Reunited & Family Search in addition to the Victoria based databases suggested on this forum but there's not a single hit for a marriage, death, or onward travel (she was aged just ten when she emigrated).

Can anyone help me find out what happened to her, please?

I look forward to being astonished once more by your resourcefulness!

With grateful thanks, Andrew.
