Thanks for the responses. It may help in my search, we think but aren`t sure it may be a photo of my great grandmother Jane Hackett nee Mcguigan who died in 1940 aged 61 and there are no other exisiting photos we know of.

Thanks for the guess. It's probably accurate given the article I attached though I've read charabancs became less popular after WW1 and wondered if it could be pre war?

Hi we are not sure who is in this photo left by my grandmother.

A period or date may help, possibly Glasgow but not certain, the shops are too blurry to make anything out so a place is unlikely. As well as the number on the pic the back of the photograph is stamped WALKING PICTURES.

I found a little more about these ambush style pics from this site https://ascottishfamilyalbum.com/category/walking-pictures/ and it could be  a seaside town also. It looks like a motor charabanc in the background which may help.
Thanks for any help

Antrim / Re: Mckay/Darragh in Antrim advice.
« on: Thursday 08 December 22 23:21 GMT (UK)  »
An update on an old post. The 1921 Scotland census has at last cleared up part mystery and confirmed my James as born in Armoy, Co. Antrim, it doesn`t say whether parish or town. Confirms date as circa March 1849 to James Mckay and Bridget Darragh.

There`s a few Darraghs around Armoy in Kilchroan and the Glenshesk side of Armoy in Griffiths and Census but few Mckays, one Presb family who don`t seem connected. There`s one J. MCay on Knocklayde in the 1832 Tithe.

Most of the Mckays seem to be situated in the coastal area and sub coastal between Ballycastle and Ballintoy in Griffiths and Census, there`s also some further south in Loughguille, the odd one in Cushendun. If they got married in the brides parish as was tradition I guess James could be from any adjoining areas

Frustratingly despite much more records being available these days, his parents remain elusive, Bridget Mckays/Darraghs are not common in death indices anywhere or BMDs or RC parish records.
The Armoy RC records have some interetsing spelling of most names and I think Mckay has been recorded as McKy  and transcribed to Ancestry/Findmypast as McFly!! but am not 100 percent on that.

I have shown DNA connection to a line of Darraghs and Coyles who got in touch with me over the years on other sites and are linked to Dan Darragh of Ballycastle who died in Portland jail for his part in IRB activity in Antrim and UK mainland. But she would be ages to be his aunt rather than a sister I think.

If this dislodges any new info from anyone it would be much appreciated.

Lanarkshire / Re: cathcart cemetery, glasgow

Hi I live quite  near the cemetery and though I`ve not been through this past year, section N is one of the worst for flattened gravestones as its on the steepest part of the hill. I`d say almost all of those on the top half of the section are lying flat, mostl face down and some further down also.

I used to think it was terrible vandalism, which I`m sure in some parts of the cemetery it is. But I think in that section the weight of the stones and shape of the hill has caused the larger amount to fall.

Just came across this thread, there is a fairly active local history group in Shotts which can be accessed via facebook. I`m sure they will try to help as having the irn bru label guy has generated some interest in the recent past try here.

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: McPeake Swatragh Co Derry
« on: Tuesday 23 September 14 22:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Michael I have few Mcpeakes from Co. Derry in my ancestry, including Bernards. Do you have any idea where and or roughly when your Bernard died? eg Ireland, England etc., rough year as this may help include or exclude some of the Mcpeakes you have been discussing to date.
