Hi Zander,
there are some Rainey/Rennie family members  on the 1901 and 1911 Ireland Census, living near the coast close to Ballycastle, they were farmers, presbyterians, the family members are;-

Johnb1840 Torr Head died between 1901 and 1911, he married Mary Jane McClarty in 1875 in Cushendall, she died in 1899, they had 5 sons,John b 1878 Ballycastle,James b 1876 Ballycastle,Samuel Lyle born 1880 Ballycastle, David b 1883 Ballycastle and Charles b1887 Ballycastle
of the 5 sons it looks like only John remained in Antrim,Charles emigrated to USA,Samuel Lyle went to South Africa,David went to Australia, joined the AIF and was killed in action in 1917, and as you know I am trying to find James !
hope this makes sense, Vanessa

Would like to find out where he was in 1901 and 1911, if he married and had children, if so it would be very helpful to find someone with knowledge of the family.

came across your post, just wondering if the James Rainey you have could be the one I have been searching for, my James Rainey/Rennie was born in Ballycastle County Antrim in 1876, he was from a Presbyterian family of farmers, he is not on the Ireland Census of 1901 or 1911
