I think you mean Lochearnhead which would come under Perthshire at the time you are asking about?

Hello Bruce have just seen your offer of look up.  I have visited Muthill a few times to visit the little museum there but have never managed to find it open. The name I looking at is Faichney or Fechnie or similar I know there were some in Muthill in past years but do not know if any in Episcopal Church. Would be really grateful if you could have a look.
Many thanks Ann

Perthshire / Re: Laird Surname In Perth
« on: Thursday 25 March 10 09:58 GMT (UK)  »
I have looked up the Scotlands People site and found five William Lairds in Perthshire non specific to the date but near.  As you know they were not so good at sorting out birthyears then.

1.  William Laird  1735         Father Thomas Laird            Perth

2.  William Laird 1736         Father John Laird                 Perth
3.  William Laird  1738        Father  John Laird                Meigle    These two could possibly be same one birth
                                                                                                              the other the Baptism ?

4. William Laird 1739          father Andrew Laird              Lethendy and Kinloch
                                            / mother Margaret Sanders

5. William Laird 1761          father Patrick Laird                Perth
                                           /mother Grizel McNab

There are more william Lairds reg. in Perthshire but these are the nearest to your dates. Maybe you will be able to find some trend in the names that will help you. It is always helpful to have the mothers name but unfortunately they were not always recorded in the earlier days. Hope this is of some help.

The care home is run by the Church of Scotland Social Work Dept. Head office 121, George Street Edinburgh.  They will probably have records about your relative somewhere in their archives. I was a officer in charge of one of the homes in the 1980s and I am almost certain that a husband and wife looked after Belmont Castle at that time.
Good luck with your search

« on: Tuesday 16 March 10 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a marriage in north Antrim for a John McGoogan born around1836 to a Nancy McGoogan born about 1840. The spelling could be differant. These are my gggrandparents who came to Scotland in the 1890,s.
i have the info from their death certificates here in Scotland.
The death certificates say that the father of John was Patrick McGoogan and the father of Nancy was Andrew one father was a farmer and the other a weaver according to death cert  Would appreciate any help in finding marriage in Antrim or other info relating to the family.

Antrim / Re: look up please for Rachel Hamilton
« on: Wednesday 03 June 09 20:24 BST (UK)  »
First of all, IGI has some, not all, Irish births 1864-1882 so it's not surprising you didn't see any births listed. Ballymena Library has the 1901 Census for Co, Antrim and Coleraine Library has microfilmed copies of some, not all, church records.
The index to Irish civil registrations is online at LDS Pilot site with only 3 records for Rachel Hamilton listed- and none of those close to the details you've given. Perhaps she was registered without a Christian name or not born in Ireland. Have you found the family in 1901 Scottish census to see what birthplaces are given for Rachel and her siblings?
I have the family on the 1901 Scottish census and the mother , father and three children including Rachel were all down as born in Ireland, there are other children who were born in Scotland on the 1901 census.  My grandmother told me she was from Ballymoney and I have traced other members of the family to Dervock but could not find Rachel's birth records.

Antrim / look up please for Rachel Hamilton
« on: Tuesday 02 June 09 20:58 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a birth notification for my grandmother Rachel Ann Hamilton born in County Antrim around 1892.   My great grandparents were William John Hamilton and Mary Jane Mcgoogan married in November 1887 at Drumtulloch Church. They came to Scotland around 1895 and had three children at that time John , Thomas and Rachel. I have tried on LDS and other Irish sites but cannot find birth of children. Last year when I visited the area had a quick look in Collraine library and at Ballemena but no success. There were more children born in Scotland and I have got their details from Scotlands People.
If someone could put me in the right direction to get info I will be very grateful.
Thank you.
