Renfrewshire / Re: William Gemmell - Born 1847 Renfrew.

There was a pub, now closed, on Anlaby Road, Hull, called the William Gemmell.

The Hull History centre has William Gemmell as owner and skipper of the "Heron" in the 1890's

Thanks,
Yes its the same family. There was a history of shipbuilding in the family right through to the 1950s.

Renfrewshire / William Gemmell - Born 1847 Renfrew.

Hello All,

I am trying to establish the early years of a William Gemmell, born 1847 in Renfrew. He must have moved to England by the late 1860's as he married Ellen Brown in Hull in 1868. The only pointer to his parents might be through his trade as a shipwright and then shipbuilder in the Hull area.

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks,

That clears up the two marriages before she was 20 query.....!

I have not seen the de Courcey name in her family before having not foumd her in the 1881 Census. Now I know where to look.

London and Middlesex / Mariage Mystery - de Courcy - Hare - Kirby
« on: Thursday 28 November 24 15:57 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Horace Woodburn Kirby who marries for the second time in 1893 to a B. Lilian de Courcy. This is taken from various newspaper marriage announcements and she is the youngest daughter of Charles John Hare.
Assuming she married as Hare I cannot find a marraige to a de Courcy.
The 1901 Census shows her birth as 1874. That would mean she married Kirby at aged about 19 and how would she have managed a marriage before that to be shown as de Courcy in 1893?

Warwickshire / Wife of Arthur Warne-Browne

I have an Arthur Warne-Brown born 1867 in Exeter. I found him in the 1911 Census living in Sutton Coldfield and married to a Susy Kidston Warne-Browne born 1875.
I just can't find any record of their marriage which is likely to have been between the mid 1890's and the birth of their first child in 1899.
I would also like to trace her and details of her family.
Thanks
Paul

Thanks All.

Also, it seems that some of the items relating to her Royal service are for sale at an auction.

Midlothian / Marion MacKay Polson - Leith.

Hello All,

I am trying to find any information on Marion MacKay Polson who I understand was born in 1909 in Leith.
At the moment all I know is that she had a long career working for the Royal Family at Holyrood Palace where she retired in the late 1960's.

Thanks,
Paul

Durham / Re: John Walter Longstaffe - India and County Durham

Thats a strange one.

Even his first child (born 4 years before his marriage in 1921) would not fit a date of 1898.......??

John Walter Longstaffe would have been 20 at the time so what child is he objecting to being vaccinated?
