Surrey / Re: Israel Lynn Dorking/Reigate Non Conformist 18th Century
« on: Sunday 02 November 14 16:09 GMT (UK)  »
My wife (nee Sheelagh Miles) is also descended from the two Israel Lynns.
You may perhaps be interested to know that this family at one time owned the 'Red Cross' in Reigate, once a 'hospital' for pilgrims, and now a pub. According to the National Archives' Access to Archives website, this information is contained in documents held at the Surrey Family History Centre, which mention the first Israel and his son and grandson John.
Regards,
David.

In case it is any help, FreeReg are making a start on transcribing the Ockley registers - though so far they have only done some of the very earliest ones.

It doesn't seem to have been noted here as yet that there are now a number of Surrey parish register entries available on FreeReg.

http://www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/sry/frontpage.shtml

A year or two ago, they had nothing for this county, but (perhaps helped by the appointment of a new county coordinator) they now appear to be steaming ahead, and quite a number of parishes have been covered already.

Looks as though that's a dead end, then.
Thank you very much for the further info., anyway.

David.

Thank you for that info.  I already had the year of marriage from Boyd, but have noted the further details you have given.
Thank you also for looking for the couple's baptisms (presumably you also looked for Elizabeth Turner's).  Bearing in mind that the marriage was not until 1741, it may be that the age on his death record is a bit high.
Regards,
David.

Thank you both for your comments.  I am not quite sure whether they answer my query, though.
The question is, would the SFHG database normally include any comments in the original such as 'son of.....' (as in e.g. FreeReg)?  If not, then I still have to hope that someone is able to have a look at the original register for me.
Thanks anyway.
David.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Storrington burial lookup, please
« on: Monday 26 August 13 16:39 BST (UK)  »
One of my wife's ancestors is William Trevet, who married Elizabeth Ludby at Storrington on 3.4.1722.
There are possible christenings for him at Storrington in 1682 and 1698. The second seems more likely, but I am trying to verify this.
FindMyPast gives a burial of a William in 1704, but no details.  I wonder whether the original entry would clarify whether this was a child, and if so, whose?
Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
David.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Westleton lookup, please
« on: Sunday 25 August 13 17:00 BST (UK)  »
I have taken one of my wife's lines back to a marriage  at Westleton in 1741 (per Boyd) of John Townrow and Elizabeth Turner.
Can anyone help me to go back a little further, please? It looks as though they may both have come from there, since they appear to have remained in Westleton.
John's burial age suggests he was born around 1708.
Thanks,
David.
