United States of America / Re: The Hibbert Brothers
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 11:34 BST (UK)  »
hello ness.
many thanks for your reply.
i have no knowledge if my ancestor charles had any siblings at all. as of yet i have not traced his parents. i know by 1814 he was living in stockport, he married mary bailey there in that year. i had rather hoped, with you researching the names hibbert and bailey, that there may had been a more definite link.... (perhaps via james) between our families. but as yet i feel there is no link. sorry ness. it was worth a try.
so thanks for taking the time out.
my regards jonny.

hello,
i am wondering if we may be related via the hibbert family.
my ancestor, charles hibbert was born in london c 1791. his trade was a hatter. i have a reason to believe that he married a mary bailey, born in warrington, cheshire 1791. charles died in  heaton  norris stockport, cheshire / lancs 1855.
they had the following children
george c 1826
elizabeth c 1826
mary c 1828
samuel c 1829
william c 1832
mary (margrand) c 1835.
charles and mary may had another son james c 1814 ? ( i can not remember off hand, as i writing from memory).
samuel's descendants later moved to openshaw, droylsden lancs. i would be very interested to hear from you, very soon.

United States of America / a Depledge family link with chicago ?
« on: Saturday 11 April 09 19:55 BST (UK)  »
hello.
i am seeking any info of my gt grandfathers sister Agnes Depledge.
she was born 1874 in Sheffield Yorkshire England, her parents being Edward and Mary Mcdermott. (Mary was born in Roscommon Ireland , the Mcdermott family had fled the famine).

i have recently found out (via a distant cousin, Agnes's gt granddaughter) that Agnes had been confirmed in the roman catholic church of the holy trinity in Chicago USA, sometime between the years 1886 and 1891. (i have Agnes in the 1881 and 1891 Sheffield census) i have found a Agnes Depledge sailing from liverpool to new York, travailing to chicago in DEC 1885. she is alone. thus she must be going to meet up with some relatives yet unknown to  us.

the Depledge family has no links with the states. so i have a hunch that the relatives may be on the Mcdermott side, as many Irish who had fled the famine settled in north America.

i would be very grateful for any info on all aspects with adove or suggestions as to how i can gain further info as oversea research is all new to me. where do i go from here ?
regards jonny.

hi donna,

a big thank you for taking the time out and trying to help me, you are one in a million.

it was as i suspected, so i am not duly concerned with the outcome.

i can only conclude that someone may have missheard the name martha for margaret, or margaret herself, for reasons unknown to us, may have been using the name martha at that time in her life. i have come across other instances where a person was known by differant names at various times during thier life time.

anyhow thanks donna

my regards jonny

« on: Wednesday 17 September 08 16:41 BST (UK)  »
HELLO.
i am trying to trace the family or descendants of frederick depledge.
fred was born 1872 in sheffield, yorks england and died in south africia 1920. he served in the south african signals and is buried in the old no1 miltary cemetery at thaba tshwane.
he may had two marriages
1, dorothy (uk 1901 census, states that she was born in the cape colony at malmesbury)
2 annie, last known address is 23, gus sreet, jeppestown, johannesburg.
as yet i have not been able to find any date or place in regards the marriages, or that annie & dorothy is in fact the one and the same person ?. i feel that both marriages may took place in south africa.
it is also said within the depledge family (here in england) fred had links with pietermaritzburg.
any info inregards his wife/wives and thier descendants would be great !!.
regards jonny.

Norfolk / Re: yout or vouck family of norfolk

hello eileen.
many thanks for your reply, very interesting, there is every poss chance that the vout, was written as those you mentioned, given how the names has a differance in the parish records. but as the father was not mentioned, this would in most cases suggest that the child was base born. however on sophia marriage cert  a fathers name is given, alas it is so badly written that one cant work it out(we are talking 1840 here). but i will look into it.
cheers jonny, best wishes
