     Notes on the Mellors name; Family Grave in st marys church to name of Mellors( no dates).

Mr R Mellors read a paper on the life of  Mr Watson Fothergil before the Thoroton society in 1909.

The Arnold School Board held a special meeting,present Messrs.Mellors, Pemblton,Shirtcliffe,the Rev M J Truman,and Mr Spencer ,the clerk.Mr Frederick Fell , of Burnley , was appointed assistant -master ,and the British school being now crowded, it was desided to appoint Mr James Thomas Goder as an assistant -master until the Goverment Exination in November.
It was resolved to re-open the night schools for the winter season on October 8th ,for two nights per week ,at a fee of 1p .per week, and that to those pupils who passed the Goverment Examination in April last in two subjects, the fees for the forthcoming session be remitted. A committee was appointed to make further arrangments. It was agreed to have a tonic-sol-far singing class on Saturday evenings ,at a charge of one half penny per night,pupils
bringing thier own books , Mr Byford ,of Nottingham,to be invited to be the teacher. The arrangments for the Thursday evening art class were deferred. The Vicar having reported that the Daybrook National Infants school will be closed in November ,a Committee was appointed to confer with the teacher
, Miss Holmes, with a view to the continuance of the schools either in the present or in some other building untill the proposed new rooms at Daybrook will be ready.-Quoted from a Newspaper of September 7th 1878.

By arrangement made  between the Vicar and Mr Robert Mellows ,acting as Chairman of the School Board ,1883, the premises were taken over by the Board on Mondays Tuesdays, Wednesdays ,and Thursdays ,from 9 in the morning untill 6 o clock in the evening ,and on Fridays from 9-45 for school purposes , the reason for the latter provison being that the trusts of the school premises required religious instruction to be given according to the principles of the Church of England. This  arrangment  was carried out so long as the School Board  continued without any complaint or interference. The sum of £65 wa paid by the Board to the vicar for the purchase of the furniture and fittings.

Hi, have also just come across these Sully/sulleys,in the History of Arnold.
The parish register:date 1641 Note-The poors moneywas this year increased by a gift of 40/- (forty shillings from Thomas Sulley and distributed on Chritmas Day 1683 by the church wardens and overseers.
Sully :There are some very old stones of this family ,which has been located in Arnold for more then 300 years.

According to the Report of the Charities Commission ,Notts ,1768 quoted in the returns of the Commissionners in 1839 there where  then four charities for the school, and for the Poor , Bartholomew Fillingham,s (Thomas Sulley £2)
 
Thomas Cludd , of Arnold, Gent, married Alice ,daughter of Thomas Sulley , of Arnold on 22nd of April,1583. There were born to them Edward Cludd , Martha(who was baptised in 1602),Samuel who is stated to be 17 years old in 1614
, and probably other children.

It would be well to note other Arnold worthies who played for their county (amongest other names it mentions Joseph Sully.

Bartholomew Fillingham.The Fillinghams seem to have been an Arnold family On November 16th 1599, Thomas Fillingham married Anne Sulley. Possibly Bartholomew descended from this union . He was a Puriton for in 1669 private meetings for religious worship were held once a week ,sometimes at the house of Richard Walker ,and sometimes at that of Mr Fillingham .

There also some referances to the name Mellors ,if you are intrested.

Hi Clive, i,v not got back that far so am very intrested in Richard and Mary. It would be great if they are mine as I too have been stuck at John and Ann.

Hello Clive,I have looked at my Doughty tree , and found Francis and his family,
it is a bit of a mystry to me .First I must tell you the information I have all relates to my research into my Doughtys in Shropshire and alot of the information is from fellow reserchers ,it all makes sense until I get to Frances ,all his children are there with him and Hannah.
It says ,I quote; Francis Doughty.1813 ,Francis Doughty could be the son of
Francis Doughty and Elizabeth  Baptised 20th march 1813-Broseley Shropshire. unquote.
                I have searched through all the information and cannot fine any reference to a Francis and Elizabeth marriage. I have all my Doughtys going back to 1799 it includes all the children and their children.This is my direct ancestors going back four genarations starting with my gt Grandmother Annie Lucilla Doughty,born 1866 ,gt gt  grandfather Robert Doughty born 1837,his father also Robert Doughty ,born 1799,his father George Doughty,born1759,
his father ,John Doughty born about 1720.

The only other Francis on the tree is the daughter of Benjamin Doughty and his wife Hannah Griffiths (Francis born 1843). Benjamin is the son of William Doughty and Mary Dyer.

I, m sure we must be on the right track .
