Many thanks to you both and I think we have answered my questions.

I found details of him and found he received 1914/15 star, Victory Medal and War Medal but I think it very unlikely he received The Military Medal. RSand Garter home advice says he did but I reckon they mean't he won a military medal in the war.

Have found his other military records found by tony.

Thanks for your help.

World War One / Walter Ernest Everrett -Just found some info!!!

Hi all,

I wonder if anybody can help.
My Grandma's first husband was
Walter Ernest Ever(r)ett born Ipswich 1897 and he served in World War 1 in the 4th Suffolk Regiment. After the war he was admitted to the Star and Garter Home 1926 and was also treated at the Queen Alexandra Hospital , Cosham 1926.

He died in 1932 of Multiple Sclerosis.
In the information from the RSGH it was advised he was awarded the Military Medal.

Unfortunately despite having this information I cannot find him anywhere in the online records.

Help would be very much appreciated.

No problem - glad you've found a clue!  The good news is that Scottish marriage records name both parents of the parties and are available for a few credits at the click of a button :)

thanks avm

went on their website the other day for something else and credits in hand

Arthur Richard Harris birth redg April 1877 married Louisa Holloway - Croydon 1904 - 2a 605.
Couple appear with 2 children in 1911 - so should be easy to find.

The probate shows Arthur Richard Harris of 161 Shirley Avenue Shirley Croydon died 17 January 1949 - probate London 15 September to Harriet Louise Harris (widow)  Effects  £5880 1s  4d.

You wouldn't believe how wrong the marriage was and how right the rest of your info was.
It led me on a terrific journey

Thank you

Sorry people

 :-[ very embarrassed

I have now found a war record of said Arthur Richard Harris who says he married in St Martins Glasgow in 1902 as the address given on this record is same as Croydon address in 1911 and his children are same then this must be right. time to go to Scottish records.

Again many apologies

Surrey Lookup Requests / Marriage Louisa Holloway to Arthur richard Harris -Closed
« on: Wednesday 15 October 14 16:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I wonder if this is appropriate  :-[because I could just order the cert, but as it is a side branch of my tree I am reluctant unless I have too.

If anybody could help or give me guidance on how to unravel this I would be most grateful.

My ancestor Arthur Richard Harris married Louisa Holloway at Croydon Surrey 4th qtr 1904 Volume 2a 605.

In the 1911 census they were living in Croydon and had two children Leslie Arthur and Frances Hilda. His wife was still called Louisa and she was born 1878 Leicester. When Arthur Richard died in 1949 in the will he left his money to Harriet Louisa Harris !!! However on checking her will when she died aged 83 in 1961 she left the money to Leslie Arthur and Frances Hilda so it looks like Louisa Holloway and Harriet Louisa Harris are the same people.

However on looking back I cannot find either Harriet Louisa Holloway or Louisa Holloway  on any census so perhaps she was married before 1904 to someone else.

I am hoping details which will help unravel the mystery will be found on marriage cert if somebody here has access to it. If not any help would be greatly appreciated.  ???
