Dorset Lookup Requests / Jesse Butt of Dorset
« on: Monday 13 September 10 01:28 BST (UK)  »
Cornelius and Mary [Parrot} Butt had Jacob, Job, Jonas, John, JESSE
Edith, Cornelius, Ellen, Andrew and Charles. JESSE was christened Aug 5, 1821 in Kington Magna, Dorset, England. Cornelius and Mary both died in 1836 leaving the 4 youngest to live with Jacob - (they are there with him on the 1841 at Buckhorn Weston, Dorset). But where is JESSE? Cannot find any records to tell if he died or emigrated. Would love to clear up mystery of what happened Jesse Butt.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Bob -
Unfortunately, the U.S. does not have a type of centralized BMD like Great Britain. Wish they did!!
Some states and locations have some indexes.  Couldn't find anything helpful on ancestry in Wisconsin, Ohio or Washington.  Another unfortunate thing is the 1890 census burned! There are fragments only and none for these areas.
Found this though -

NY passenger lists 1820-1957
May 13, 1871
Arrived on Jas. Foster Jr.
Edward Pearson, glass blower, age 17, from England

I'll let you know if I come across anything else that looks helpful!

Dorrie

Does anyone have access to the Police Gazette for the 1861-1865 time period?  Following a hunch, looking for an army deserter named Charles Bailey from the 7th Foot. Thanks for any help or advice!

Thanks -
Looks a little steep. May have to wait longer....so close yet so far LOL.  Saving all my money at the moment for a trip to England and Ireland in June!  Wish I could have enough time to attempt searching myself but that is not feasible.

Wendi-
I guess what I should be asking you all is if you can recommend an honest researcher, LOL. How do you know who to ask? What if they charge you for hours and hours?  Would it take hours and hours to research a very specific person in a certain regiment? If you were an expert?  I have no idea and I don't have unlimited funds, LOL.
