This reseacher has  the said KAthleen Baynton Rossiter  marrying and dying details  however there is no death in  NSW at Molong or anywhere else that matches.  Incidently  that is  the same year and place  that Thomas JAmes Rossiter DOES indeed die.!!!

Is anyone able to confirm if she is definitely the daughter of Thomas James Rossiter and Mary Ann Josephine O'Shea? There is no evidence of her birth to Thomas James and Mary Ann that I can find. Also there is a 10 year difference between Henry being born in 1866 and Katherine in 1876 - does that seem strange? Also Thomas's obituary states 4 sons, 3 daughters to mourn his loss - as all the others were living and Katherine was still living then it should read 4 sons and 4 daughters. As stated earlier a Katherine Baynton Rossiter married David C.E. Allen in 1921 and she died in 1962 in Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia (NSW BDM Reg. no. 5132/1965. Katherine Baynton Allen, d/o of Thomas and Mary). Is this the evidence that she is their daughter?

SORRY JUST ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION:-

Source: The Sydney Morning Herald, Saturday 16 June 1934 DEATHS. ROSSITER.- June 15, 1934, at the residence of her sister, Mrs D.C.E. Allen, 46 McIntyre-street, Gordon, Fannie Anne, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Rossiter, of Cunnamulla, Queensland.

However confirmation of the birth date for Katherine would be great to have.

I was looking around on the web, and found a site that lists a number of additional children for Thomas James ROSSITER and Mary Jane O'SHEA.

I think there are a few mistakes on the site, including some marriages that I think apply to other people, but the family names are so strong that I'm inclined to think this information is basically right: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=symonds&id=P2801115867

The information on the above site is incorrect.

Thomas James Rossiter 1831-1907 was born in Radstock not Croscombe. He arrived in Victoria, Australia on the Strathfieldsaye in 1841 NOT on the Lady Fitzherbert in 1852. His residence in 1851 was NOT Chelsea in Middlesex as he was already residing in Australia. This can be confirmed in his obituary in the South Bouke and Mornington Journal (Richmond) dated 15 January 1908.

He married only once to Mary Ann Josephine O'Shea on the 1st of September 1854 in Brighton, Victoria. He did not marry Ellen Dalglish in 1864, nor Rebecca White in 1871 as stated on other sites, and this is confirmed in Mary Ann's death notice in 1891 referring to her as the "beloved wife of T.J. Rossiter", as follows:-

Source: The Argus, Saturday 29 August 1891

ROSSITER.— On the 26th inst., at Spring-grove, Queensland, Mary Ann Josephine, beloved wife of T.J. Rossiter, late of Lyndhurst, Victoria, aged 59 years.

Also Mary Ann was still bearing children to Thomas James Rossiter when he was supposedly married to Ellen Dalglish in 1864. Mary Ann had a another child, Henry Wedge Rossiter, to Thomas James Rossiter, born in 1866.

The marriage details for Ellen Dalglish and another man named Thomas Rossiter are listed below:-

Source: The Argus, Monday 29 August 1864

MARRIAGES. ROSSITER—DALGLISH.— On the 23rd inst., at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. Thomas Rossiter, of 29 Victoria-street, Richmond, to Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr. A. Dalglish, engineer, Emerald-hill.

Ellen’s husband died in 1911 in his 70th year which makes his birth date about 1841. Details as follows:-

Source: The Argus, Monday 26 June 1911

DEATHS. ROSSITER.— On the 24th June, at Carlton, Thomas, beloved husband of Ellen Rossiter, and loved father of Mrs. J. Melville, Mrs. L. Stable, Mrs. H. Perrett, F.D., J.A., A.J. Lily, H.D., and F.W. Rossiter, in his 70th year. Waiting in hope for the Resurrection.

Phil,  can I  ask  where you  found  the  names  of  these children, Henry Wedge and Herbert as I  thought we could only  find one child  or perhap I  am confused?

Jenn

Hi Jenn

I was looking around on the web, and found a site that lists a number of additional children for Thomas James ROSSITER and Mary Jane O'SHEA.

I think there are a few mistakes on the site, including some marriages that I think apply to other people, but the family names are so strong that I'm inclined to think this information is basically right: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=symonds&id=P2801115867

What I'm trying to do now is to confirm these dates and names by looking at other sources, and it looks to me as if some of them moved to Tasmania and at least one went to England.

Any insights would, as always, be most welcome.

Thank you --- Phil

Sorry Phil I should have made that clear:-

Thomas James Rossiter (son of Benjamin 1786-1858 and Zillah 1789-1871), who was the father of Thomas Jnr, died on the 30th of December (year not legible) at his residence, Edward Street, Molong, New South Wales, aged 76 years.

Also Mary Anne Josephine Rossiter (nee O'Shea - sister to Ellen Teressa and David O'Shea) died previously to her husband at 58 years on the 27th of August (year not legible) at her residence"Spring Grove".

Ellen Teressa, Mary Anne Josephine and David's father was John O'Shea and their mother was Mary Rhine.

That all I can tell you as I am descended from Charles' line not Thomas.

Hi Jenn,

I am just new to this so bear with me if I don't use the correct terminology or protocol when replying to these posts. I am the granddaughter of Claude Cecil and the great granddaughter of Charles (son of Benjamin & Zillah). All my information comes from recollections and bits and pieces of our family history written by my aunties and mum before they passed away and subsequent information which I have been able to marry up with the information that I have.  I may be wrong in some instances - that's why these posts are an important source to me.

Kind regards,
Gayle

   v. William Buckley Rossiter was born 2 Oct 1862 in Ravenhurst, Cranbourne, Victoria, Australia, and died after 1901 in Wales, England.
vi. Herbert Simon Rossiter was born 13 Dec 1864 in Ravenhurst, Cranbourne, Victoria, Australia, and died 22 Sep 1941 in Tasmania, Australia.

So can anyone add anything more, given this new information?

Kind regards and many thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

Just adding to this subject:-

"Ravenhurst" is the name of the property (it is not/was not a suburb or town) which was the station or run that formed the eastern section of the larger Garem Gam station situated on the Berwick Road, Cranbourne, Victoria.

Gayle
