Suffolk / Re: "The Parishes" somewhere near Bungay
« on: Monday 28 July 14 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Have consulted my father now age 91, born Bungay. He says the Parishes would be ‘The Saints’, all villages on the outskirts of Bungay, includes All Saints, St John, St Margaret South Elmham, St Cross South Elmham, Ilketshall St Margaret, etc etc! During the war they removed all the sign posts! Hence he knows the way around very well.

Halesworth, Harleston, Beccles & Bungay are Market Towns.

Suffolk / Re: suffolk victoria nursing institute

Hi,
I lived at 7 Lower Brook Street whilst training to be a midwife - 1968 -69 (I think!) it was the accommodation for student midwives training for 6 months on the community. The first 6 months took place at Heath Road in Ipswich. Most mum's had their babies at home then.

On the other side, on the same site, was the Nursing Home which accommodated mother's who delivered there and stayed for 10 days or so. It was NHS for those who didn't medically / obstetrically require a hospital bed. Not sure where the records would be, sad the whole area is now flats.

Hello Adam,

Sorry to take such a while to get back to you! I have looked round the graves at Ditchingham and can find no Dale's. Sorry about that.

I did find a James Dale burial in 1866    -   https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11685-111002-8?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-3XN:1395455747

No stone though, some grave stones are very weather worn and unreadable.

Suffolk / Re: Queens Road Felixstowe

I happened to be in Felixstowe yesterday and walked Queens Road but I couldn’t find a property with that name. I did see a several possibles, one now owned / rented by Suffolk Social Services but had no name, I thought the windows at the top were very nicely designed, that was at the sea end. It’s a shame you haven’t a number. I wonder if a trade directory would have information.

Suffolk / Re: Wangford - pub and evacuees

My neighbour lived most of her life in Wangford. It is The Loyal Oak, & usually known as The Oak, it is in Norfolk Road. She doesn't remember evacuees (not old enough!)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Otley Suffolk Parish Register Look Ups?
« on: Thursday 02 February 12 21:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Alex,

I don’t think I shall be much help to you with your Otley request.

I was interested in the mention of Wythe.  I have a Roseanna (Rose Ann) Wythe – she married  Robert Vice on 17/11/1811 at Framlingham. They are my 4xGrand-parents. Roseanna was born 1785 and she died 1820. I haven’t conclusively been able to go back any further with Wythe. Framlingham is about 10 miles from Otley.

There has been a half dozen or so posts on the name Wythe on Rootschat, if you go to ‘Search’ on Rootschat and just tick the Suffolk requests only etc.,with the name Wythe requested, you can see them.

Must correct a statement I made above (2). There are possibly surviving children also from James (Jim 1885-1953), through his first wife Margaret.
