« on: Friday 11 August 17 21:29 BST (UK)  »
i have recently received some great help about my grandmother who we believe was born in canada before coming to belfast. ive been told her parents were born in belfast then went to canada then returned when her father was part of the canadian expeditionary forces. i only have her baptism cerficate when she was aged 14.my mother was told that her birth certificate was destroyed in canada hence the need for the baptism certificate. who do i need to contact to find out about her place of birth?

Possible arrival in England?
Hi, please see info below that someone has provided me with about my grandmother (the child Agnes). This is the sum total of what I know. Can anyone help me finding out any moreabout my great grandparents. My mother seems to think my GGfather was a Colonel in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces but given the house that my grandmother and grandfather lived in I don't think she was upper class lol

Arriving Liverpool 14 July 1919. Sailed from Montreal on the Scandinavian.

Wm J White 32 Soldier
Eliz 26 Wife
Mary A 6
Agnes 4
Wm J Infant 10 Months

European address 8 Wimbleton St Belfast

Country of last residence Canada, but it doesn't say where, unfortunately.

No apparent indication of where anyone was born.

fantastic!! that's the address I know her living at, Wimbledon Street, Shankill Rd Belfast. And  that has reminded me of an "uncle willy" who came over from england somewhere. Now if it seems that she was canadian is there a similar forum to this covering canada?
I have no memory of a Mary although my mother's name is Mary Jane so that might explain it?

I have my grandmothers baptism certificate which shows she was baptised in belfast when she was 14 years of age. My mother is under the impression her mother is of canadian descent, she reckons my great grandfather was a colonel. question: how can i find out if any of this is true i.e was my grandmother canadian and was her father in the canadian expeditionary forces.

details I have:
grandmother: agnes white, DOB 7.8.14, baptised in parish of St MAry's, diocese of Connor on 12.9.1928.
Parents:William James and Elizabeth White of 63 Beresford Street,I suppose in Belfast

Family History Beginners Board / best option? monthly subscription or "credits"?
« on: Thursday 30 March 17 21:56 BST (UK)  »
started researching my father's english relatives a few years back but for different reasons gave itup. am now wanting to get back into it and was wondering is it better value for money to do amonthly subscription to one of the research sites or the"credits" option? i remember paying for a photocopy of a record from an office (can't remember if it was a census) but when it came it was illegible.
so basically i'm wanting advice on how best to dip my toe into the waters again.
