Hi Margow

Have just found your posts about the Gardner family.  My gr gr grandfather was the John Gardner who died as a result of a train crash and who had married Janet Black.  They had three children; John Gardner (b. 21.10.1865) , Elizabeth Brownlie Gardner (b. 25.4.1868) and Mary Gardner(b. 26.3.1871)

Elizabeth was my gr grandmother.  She married Alexander Hardie Smith on 21.6.1892 and had 4 daughters.

Let me now if you would like to know more about this branch of the family.   I didn't know that John Gardner had siblings so can't help you with information about them.

Hi
I have been along a similar route while looking for my gr grandmother's admission to Hartwood assylum.  If I remember correctly West Register House in Edinburgh has all the admission records for Scotland's assylums from early 19th century until well into the 20th century!  You will have to first go through the ledgers which list the admissions and find out the dates and then request the relevant ledger to view the admission notes - it's quite a slow process but worth it, although quite sad reading at times.  Of course you can only view admission notes that are over 100 years old.

Not sure that's any help to you if you're not in Edinburgh but at least you now know th information is out there!

Good luck!

Thanks for having a look Derek.  Hugh is turning into a bit of a mystery! Will keep looking and hope that someone somewhere knows something. F

I'm trying to find out about my husband's uncle, Malcolm Hugh Carrington, known as Hugh Carrington.  He was involved with Formula One racing back in the fifties and won the 9 hour race in 1959.  I believe he was an electrical engineer and lived in Johannesburg. He was born in the UK and was the grandson of J B Carrington, goldsmith and Court jeweler of London. Any information at all would be great!

Hi Mr G

Hope you got my PM - are you able to receive them?  Think you have to have had at least 3 posts to do so.  If need be I can send another.

Hi Picamarra
Thanks for clearing up my muddle over Comries! I think part of the problem was that there were so many of them.

Piamarra

Have you looked on the Commonwealth Graves Commission website for info on the death during WW2 in Tunisia?  You an find out dates and where the death occurred as well as download a certificate for the person concerned.

Thanks for that Anderson. I think I've used these sites in the past but it's good to be reminded of them.
