Good afternoon all, i'm hopeful someone can help point me on the right track before i get carried away.
My grandfather never knew who his father was. He was born in 1928
I know all of my fathers family, and my maternal grandmothers, so i figured looking at my matches on Ancestry DNA may help identify the family of my grandfather.
It's complicated by the fact my grandfathers mother also didn't have a known father.
I found a (extended family) member, unassigned, although was obviously from my maternal side as her public tree showed nobody i knew of.
her relation was 3rd cousin, or half 2nd cousin 1x removed
we shared 65cm across 4 segments of DNA.
So, as i understand it, me and this woman must have the same great-great grandparents, meaning we either share a single great grandparent, or our great grandparents were siblings, is that correct?
I looked at our shared matches, the next closest match we had was a man who was my 3rd cousin 1x removed or, half 2nd cousin 2x removed. i shared 49cm across 1 seagment of DNA with him
looking at his public tree, he shares an ancestor with the previous woman mentioned.
They're both descended from a couple named Thomas & Annie Atkinson.
i signed up to pro tools and they both are listed as half 2nd cousins 2x removed or 3rd cousins 1x removed to each other. There are, various other matches i have in common with these 2 people.
the issue is, Thomas Atkinson was married before he met Annie, he had children, then he married Annie, had more children, then they split and Annie seems to have had a few children after Thomas.
My question is, does it seem i'm on the right track looking at the son's of Thomas & Annie as a potential father for my grandfather.
The relationship between the previous mentioned people
The original Woman's great grandfather is the brother of person B's grandmother both children of Thomas & Annie
Hope you can follow
Best wishes
Jason
