Berwickshire / general research information
« on: Sunday 30 January 22 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings RootsChat crew,
I have several inquiries today that I would greatly appreciate any information on:

1. How common was it for a prospective wife to be several years older than her prospective spouse???

2. How common was it for "older marriages"  that is not the usual 18 -20 for the wife and 21-25 for the spouse???

3. Was it possible, and maybe a bit common, for women 40 - 50 years old to be having children????

4. I have a relative from Northfield Farm, Coldingham, Berwick.  I was wondering what the farm produced in the 1700's and 1800's.  Was it one large farm or a series of small homes in like a subdivision??

4. And, finally, I have just found a relative from Ninewells-Miln, Chirnside.  Does anyone have any information on  this place.

Thank you all in advance for reading my post and offering what information you have to help me understand more my path through research.

Thank you for your comment.  I found this record in FamilySearch Wiki.  I agree that the parish record will have much the same information.  I have found this out on Scotland's People when I pay to view a record.  It was an interesting record for me.  I am searching  Allison Henderson/John Young from Tweedmouth.  The dates don't really work out, but....  John Young was born in 1750.  I have searched all over - Northumberland and Scotland  - for an Allison Henderson with no success.  Then I found two records for an Alice Henderson in Tweedmouth.  The marriage record says that she is from the parish.  One Alice was born in 1741 and the second in 1742.  The marriage was in 1777.  There are records of other Hendersons, sibblings???, born in the 1740's but it is a little late for this marriage and she would be a little old for her own marriage.

I was searching for parents for Alice Henderson when I found the 1726 marriage.  On a hunch, I checked the children of Allison and John Young.  The first son was named John and the first daughter was named Eleanor.  In Scottish tradition, the first daughter is named after the wife's mother.  Very interesting!!!  I can't really connect anything, but that is why I posted.  Just throwing it out there after all my research is exhausted for now.  Thank you again for responding.

Greetings researchers,
I have been searching without success to find out more information about this marriage:

John Henderson
Marriage: 5 February 1726
Tweedmouth Northumberland
Spouse: Elenor Anderson

Any information would be helpful - births, children, parents, etc..  I realize that records start in 1711 for Tweedmouth.  I have checked for Elenor in Berwick Upon Tweed without success too.  Perhaps she comes from a nearby parish???  I cannot get into the early Tweedmouth parish images.  I can't find the original parish marriage record.  HELP!

Good news.  I will have to check that tree out. I would love to see the photos too.  So far I have been using FamilySearch and had found a tree there, but I think I am ready for ancestry again.  More work lies ahead.  Again, thank you.

WOW!!!!!  Just heading to bed and checked my mail one last time before turning the computer off.  WOW!!!!  This is what makes ancestry research exciting.  And, humbling!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I feel like I caught the big one and I'm not even fishing!  Thank you all, friends at Roots Chat, who try to help each other in many ways.  What a night cap for me.
