Thank you so much gothitjulie. In the past three days I have been sent so much information from a friend who has Ancestry and now have full names, dates and some marriages and deaths for all William's children, which is wonderful.

Ella W is Ella Wood who married Alfred Edward Caldecott and then Richard Percy John Codrington.
Henry is Henry George.
Lucy Beatrice mar Capt S C F Jackson
William Barnard & Kate Alice you have posted details.

William's children from his first marriage to Louisa Purkis who he married on 23 Sept 1833 in Perth, Australia are:

Louisa Maria Drake b. 18 July 1836 Perth
John b. 15 Sept 1834 Perth
Laura Mary b. 1 June 1843 Perth
Emily Caroline b. 28 Feb 1845 Perth

Between 1834 and 1843 there were probably more children but as I don't know where he was during this time period I haven't come across them. The above info was sent to me by my friend Sue.

How are you connected to this family?

Tessa

Hi,
I too am researching John Drake and his family, specifically his son William Henry Drake who married Elizabeth Lucy Wood (his second marriage to the much younger lady). Elizabeth was born on 16 Aug 1841 Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa (known as the Cape Colony in those days). She married William Henry Drake (as his second much younger wife) on 1 Sept 1863 in Grahamstown. their children were:

1. Ella W b. 1865 New Zealand d. bet Jul-Sept 1945 Honiton, Devon, England. Married an unknown Codrington.

2. Henry G b. bet Jul-Sept 1866 at Ryde, Isle of Wight d. bet Jul-Sept 1910 Honiton, Devon, England.

3. Lucy Beatrice b. 1869 Dublin, Ireland d. ?? Married Capt S C F Jackson 3 Jan 1898 at St. Mary's, Poona, Maharashtra, India.

4. William Barnard b. bet Oct-Dec 1871 London, Middlesex, England d. bet Jan-Mar 1930 Newton Abbott, Devon.

5. Kate Alice b. bet Jan-Mar 1876 London, Middlesex, England mar Dudley Frederick Nevill bet Jul-Sept 1899 at Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

If anyone can add any information to this family I would be love to hear from you.

Thanks
Tessa

Durham Lookup Requests / South Shields - CROZIER - 1786
« on: Tuesday 26 October 04 06:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I have recently knocked down a 5 year brick wall and have found my gggggrandfather on an 1862 Census and am now trying to locate the parish and birth dates for William CROZIER who was born in 1786 (could be 22 March 1786 according to IGI) in Shields, County Durham and married on 6 May 1834 to Mary Ann NAPPER.

Since William is a common name in the Durham area, some clues are that his mother was possibly a GIBSON or a HOLMES, as his second son was named Gibson Napper Holmes Crozier. The Napper bit is his mother's maiden name, so GIBSON & HOLMES are strong possibilities. Although I suspect that HOLMES comes from the NAPPER side, as Mary Ann's sister was Louisa Holmes Napper. William's parents could have been a William & Mary. The IGI record is not a church record. I don't even know which parish church records to request. Another clue is that he had a cousin named Janet Jackson who lived in South Shields (this was from his will in 1864).

His older brother's name was William Robert.

Thanks
Tessa

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1851,1861 kent or islington

Hi Ruth

I have just joined Rootschat and seen your message. On the 8th Oct I returned to SA from a holiday in the UK, where I was able at last to find my ancester William CROZIER. He was born in Shields, County Durham according to the 1862 Census (found at the Heritage Centre, Greenwich). His wife was Mary Ann NAPPER, but the children's second name in the generations that followed had it as NAPIER. I also found the baptism for William Robert, Gibson Napper Holmes and Marion (have her birth cert). Have Philip's info already. Matilda is still the illusive one. I searched through many registers from St. Botolph without Aldgate where William and Mary Ann married through to Islington where William, Gibson and Marion were born, but couldn't find her.

On the IGI is a birth date of 22 March 1786 for William, but it's not a church record. I am descended through his son Gibson Napier Holmes Crozier. Although his baptism very definitely says Napper, he seems in all the time he was here in SA to have used Napier and all the generations that followed have this name too, including my mother's brother!

Are you a Crozier descendant?
