Thanks for your replies.  Can't believe how the time has passed since I first posted this message.  I'm still no further forward on discovering Mary Laidlaw's parents.  I know of a few people also interested in Mary and they have found nothing either.  SelDen - can I ask you where you found the baptisms for Longhaughshields as I have not been able to find them online.

Hi - haven't been on for a while and have just seen your message.  From the list of names posted by "keyboard86", three of them were relatives of mine.  They are William Dec 1911; Winifred M Sept 1912 and Frances Sept 1914.  Their mother was Margaretta Lizzie Laidlaw and father Joseph Bell. 
Hope you haven't sent for their certificates yet and I have managed to save you some money.

Thanks Erin31 - yes it probably would have appeared in the Hexham Courant.  I think it was also in the Evening Chronicle at the time as his son lived in Durham and he did have a copy of it back then but it was never kept.

Wondered if someone would be so kind as to look up a death notice for me.

It is for Joseph Bell.

He died on 7th August 1974 and was living in Hexham at the time with his daughter Frances.  She herself has since died.
