Family History Beginners Board / Re: Intestate
« on: Wednesday 21 September 11 11:33 BST (UK)  »
I am obtaining a copy of the will. All I know is the story that my Grandma told me regarding the money from the estate going to chancery and that her father and grandfather were involved in a very long legal battle over the money from the estate (it was a lot). Having applied for a copy of the will, if it was contested will the paperwork for the court case be with it, or would I need to look elsewhere? This all happened from 1912.

How would I go about confirming a family story about a member of the family being put in jail for embezzlement in Manchester sometime between 1912 and 1923?

Thank you. His name was William Lynch and was the commercial clerk at the brickworks owned by the Briggs family in Cheetham, Manchester. Any help in finding out about him would be great.

There is a person mentioned in my 3x great grandfathers will who appears not to be related to the family and I would like to find out more about him, but I don't know how. The only information I have is his name and his role in the company. Any thoughts on how to progress?

thank you for your response. I was going on information my Grandma had written down. I have now found the will, but how would I go about finding out about the court case when it was contested?

oh yes, that's him, thank you. I'm still not sure why he decided to move and then come back. Do you know if that was a common thing? I had thought that around this time, people were trying to leave ireland.

Dublin / Irish Travels

Why would someone move from Oxford to Manchester, set up a book binding business and then move to Ireland-Dublin for 3 years 1881-1884 before moving back to Manchester to continue the business. There was no Irish ancestry on either side of the family. Would there be any way of me finding out what they were doing in Ireland for these few years?
