Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: 1791 - Syleham Marriage Record RUDDOCK
« on: Wednesday 14 November 12 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much for looking for me, that is very kind of you.  :)

It is strange that there was not more info as the extract must have got it from somewhere  ??? I really need to find the full extract. Do you know are the AT or BT for Syleham available online anywhere?

Syleham doesn't appear to be on freereg either? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks again for all your help,

Sarah  :)

Thanks for coming back to me Claire. That is helpful. Do you think the parish records would hold more info? What I am really hoping to find is whether Thomas was a widow?

Thanks

Sarah

Norfolk / Help - Struggling with Ruddocks!
« on: Monday 12 November 12 20:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anyone trace a marriage between Thomas Ruddock & Mary Ellis ???  Some of their children were baptised in Dickleburgh. Elizabeth & Maria 16th June 1799 & Thomas 13th June 1802. I am thinking it would be c1796-1799 in that area of Norfolk but I am not ruling anything out at this stage.

I am really struggling with this part of my tree as the parish records for Dickleburgh show children baptised in the period 1792-1812, some to:

a) Thomas Ruddock & Mary Allen
b) Thomas Ruddock & Mary Ellis
c) Thomas Ruddock & Mary (unknown)

I am trying to work out if there is one Thomas with two wives named Mary or two Thomas Ruddocks each with there own wife called Mary.

I have traced the marriage of Thomas Ruddock to Mary Allen in Syleham, Suffolk in 1791. It states that Thomas is from Dickleburgh so I am happy this is correct.

I now need to untangle the rest. I think I need either...  :-\
a) the wedding of Thomas and Mary Ellis to see if he is listed as a widower etc
b) the death of Mary Allen c1796 which would help to prove the 2 wives named Mary theory.
c) alternatively proof of 2 baptisms for Thomas Ruddock's in Dickleburgh area in same period.

But I can't seem to find anything  :(

Any light anyone could shed on this would be most appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Sarah

P.S Spelling of Ruddock can vary a lot ruddock/rudduck/ rudoc etc

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Wedding Banns recorded but no marriage record???
« on: Monday 12 November 12 19:19 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you everybody.

Based on your information I have uncovered that the banns were read in the grooms parish but they got married in Suffolk at the Brides Parish. It looks like the familysearch index was the last date of banns being read not the wedding date or place so a little misleading.

Thanks for your help,

Sarah  :)

Hi,

I would be very grateful if somebody could look up a marriage on the parish records for me. :)

According to the Pallots Marriage index the wedding took place in Syleham Suffolk in 1791 (approx October) between Thomas Ruddock & Mary Allen.

Many Thanks,

Sarah

Hi Carole,

Thank you for your fast reply  :). Thanks for the link. I am aware of the entry but trying to find the source data. Do you know where they transcribed it from?

The date of the marriage on the IGI index is the date of the third reading of the banns. Could they read the banns for the third time and then get married straight after or would they have to wait another week?

Any thoughts on why the wedding itself is not on freereg or the original parish and AT records???

Thanks again for your help,

Sarah

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Wedding Banns recorded but no marriage record???
« on: Sunday 11 November 12 19:14 GMT (UK)  »
 Hi All,

I have found the record of the Banns being read in 1791 in Dickleburgh for the marriage of Thomas Ruddock & Mary Allen however I can't find the record of the marriage in either the Dickleburgh parish records or the Archdeacons Transcripts.

What does this mean? ???

Did the marriage not take place? The bride was from Syleham in Suffolk, if they had got married there would the banns still be read in the grooms parish?

Thank you,

Sarah

Norfolk / Re: Gissing Parish Records -missing on familysearch?

Thanks guys for coming back to me.  That is a shame as I don't live in Norfolk so that hampers my research for the time being.  :(  But at least now I know what is available for future reference.
