I am researching the ELLIOTT family from Gloucestershire for a friend and I am trying to find out more about the ELLIOTTs from Newington Bagpath, Tetbury, Glooucestershire.
Earliest reference I can find is in 'Tetbury Gell & Bradshaw Gloucestershire Directory 1820' for a Thomas ELLIOTT, Mason.
In 'Pigot's Directory of Gloucestershire, 1830' Thomas Elliott, Stone Mason, appears again.
By 1856, 'Newington Bagpath Kellys Gloucestershire Directory' has Robert ELLIOTT as Stonemason.
'Morris & Co.Commercial Directory & Gazetteer of Newington Bagpath 1876' also has Robert ELLIOTT, Stonemason.
'Morris & Co.Commercial Directory of Kingscote 1876' has Edwin ELLIOTT, Road Surveyor.
I believe these are all related.
Edwin ELLIOTT I think was born in 1837 Newington Bagpath to Robert b.1801 approx. & Alice/Alicia ELLIOTT b.1799 approx.
Edwin went on to marry a Charlotte Wyman HOLLOWAY at the Parish Church, Kingscote on 21st February 1865, a Thomas ELLIOTT being one of the witnesses.
I am trying to find out what happened to one of their children, Mary Louisa ELLIOTT b.1870, Tetbury, Gloucestershire. I found her in the 1901 census as a Servant working in a William HEATONs household (Fire Insurance Manager). After this date, I cannot trace her.
I believe she had a daughter in 1894 at 5 Hill Street, Bristol called Sylvia Rosabella ELLIOTT, but the mother's name is down as Louisa ELLIOTT only and no father's name given.
Any help appreciated.
