Sadly, it seems Patrick had been orphaned young, if these details from an Ancestry tree are correct:

Death of mother Helen Conway (1889–1927)
7 OCT 1927 • 253 Duke Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Death of father Edward Findlay (1887–1927)
8 DEC 1927 • Belvidere Hospital, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland

which perhaps explains no obvious follow through by family on Patrick having died - maybye he was brought up outwith the family.

He seems to have had at least one brother:

Edward Findlay
1920–1997

Maybe descendants of Edward would be willing to pursue any possibility of obtaining a death certificate in respect of Patrick. I have messaged the tree owner, directing them to this thread. They were active last month, so hopefully will see same. Their tree has 'unknown' against Patrick, in respect of death details.

If CWGC are insisting on sight of a death certificate have you considered approaching the registrars office for advice? For example, would there be any hope of achieving a delayed/late registration, as the overseas death was not registered at the time, by submitting evidence of the death (e.g., from shipping logs) and and any other supporting documents?

Have you considered going down the DNA route?

Not to further your research, but to add some more 'meat' to what Neale 1961 has said. Hopefully you find it an interesting read:

SNWM seem to have him as a Peter Chalmers Ritchie, born Kirkcaldy:

https://www.snwm.org/roll-search/?id=5761908&searchid=e449fac43c35a86107244d6449c99179&page=1

This birth seems to fit, albeit age then out by a couple of years or so for the 1920 death:

RITCHIE
PETER CHALMERS
mmn MILLAR
M
1896

Kirkcaldy and Abbotshall

Possibly this death record, albeit no middle name and mmn with an e rather than an a:
RITCHIE
PETER
27
mmn MILLER
M
1920

Pollokshields

Well done, Ralph_Tudor
Great to see folks still doing what is, in effect, a Random Act of Genealogical Kindness  ;D .
