Antrim / Re: Search Request - Mayne Family Early 1800s

The surname could certainly be found in Carrickfergus in the 1800s, however with the limited knowledge you have of him, it could prove difficult to link anysuch persons directly to your chap.

For example, the Pre-1858 Wills and Admons index at PRONI has a Fanny Mayne, Carrickfergus, 1831 and a Samuel Mayne, Carrickfergus, 1835 listed,  albeit the original documents do not exist. PRONI also have the will indexed for a James Mayne of Carrickfergus, who died in 1869 and was married to a Jenny. The image of same does not mention children.

Newspapers have mention of an 1868 death in Carrickfergus of an Andrew Mayne, who was born in 1803. He was apparently late of H.M. Customs, Liverpool. Images are not yet available online for the death registration, so no further details available.

The Griffiths Valuation of mid 1800s also has examples of the surname in Carrickfergus, eg a John Mayne in the town of Carrickfergus in 1861.

Another example of the surname in the area albeit later, at 1901, can be seen at:

https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Carrickfergus/North_Street/993064/ .

Have you or any other family descended from Richard, considered going down the DNA route to perhaps assist in linking with others of the Mayne surname?

See reply #2, the announcement said died on 31st October funeral on 5th November ?

Yes, just checked again, Thursday 5th was funeral. I still feel it might be worth someone having a look at that Billion Graves entry if they have access,  in case of transcription errors.

Billion Graves, which now seems to require payment, so only limited details available for free, have a Julia C A Stewart headstone picture at Piershill, with a date of 4/11/1925. Realise initials and dates don't seem to match, but it seems rather a coincidence two Julia Stewarts in similar timescale. Might be worth paying to view, in case there has been transcription errors.

https://billiongraves.com/grave/Julia-C-A-Stewart/43422095 says died 4th November, and I think your Julia was buried on the 4th.

Mention of her death in Edinburgh Evening News of 3rd November 1925, says a verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest in Longframlington. Apparently Mr Stewart and another female were also in the car at the time. They were heading to Newcastle when the car skidded and overturned.

19th May 1977 edition of Newry Reporter carries short story on death of, it says, a Robert John (Jack) Williams, formerly of the Welsh Regiment who lived at 49 Canal Street (49 was also the address in the McCullough death notice). A sorrowing widow and daughter are mentioned, Mary and ______ (could be alive so can't name here, her husband also named). Funeral at Armagh Road Cemetry. He seems to have been active in both the Orange Lodge and Royal Black Institution.
