Hi Anajinn,

Unfortunately Wellington Street, Bradford no longer exists. A lot of the streets were demolished round there in the 60s, which included most of the streets my ancestors were brought up in (including Wellington Street), which is such a shame - I would love to be able to go and drive down them!

If you want to see where Wellington Street was, you can go to Streetmap.co.uk using the link below, and find the junction between Grey Mare Lane and Albert Street, Wellington Road ran pretty much straight down from there onto Ashton Old Road.

Thank you very much. I remember the name Grey Mare Lane, but was nevery familiar with that area.

The only Wellington Street that I can find in that area is in section 3d of the 1930 street map, just over the 'E' of Hyde Road. There may be another, but at the moment, if there is, it eludes me. Maybe Gorton came under the Bradford area for census purposes. Gorton is adjacent to Bradford.
My grandfather was born in Daniel Street, Bradford, by the way, and I worked down the pit at Bradford colliery for some years. Don't recall a Wellington Street in the area. I'll keep checking when I have a bit of spare time.

Sorry, Eric. I didn't read properly. I see you worked at Bradford Pit. I never even knew there was a pit in the middle of Manchester. I feel embarrassed about that. I now see that there is a lot of information online about Bradford Pit.

Thank you very much Eric. I do know that Bradford is near Gorton. It is funny you should talk about coal mining. I was watching this not two minutes ago

Which pit were you in?
