Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Gloucestershire Look up - Temple, Bristol
« on: Saturday 24 May 14 14:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Would it be possible to get a marriage look up please?  For John Hodges and Elizabeth Skinner on December 3rd 1893.  The only info I have is from Family Search and all that is listed is Temple, Bristol.  I am most interested in the occupation of John to help trace him on a census.

Many thanks in anticipation

Thank you for that - it is most helpful.  Unfortunately you have confirmed that the marriage is all an illusion!!

Many thanks indeed.

I can't believe I haven't seen this post before - how very rude of me not to reply - I do apologise most sincerely.

Any info you would be willing to share about Elizabeth would be most welcome.

Regards
Lesley

Hi there

I wonder is there anyone kind enough to do a look up for a marriage deemed to have taken place there around 1799 - 1820's??  Bit vague I know but family history has a William Campbell marrying Jane Elizabeth Roscoe reputedly the daughter of William Roscoe.  I am aware that William Roscoe did indeed have a daughter Jane Elizabeth but she certainly didn't marry my several XG Granddad!!
The family law is quite specific about the place just not the date.  I am told William came from Scotland to Liverpool and married Jane on his way to Chester.
Here's hoping anyway!!  Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi

Thanks very much for your reply.

You say it probably wasn't a full passport so I took a further look at what I thought was evidence of a British Passport and it looks as though the official stamp has 'passport' crossed off and has something written above - either 0/1 or c/1 or whatever and then a number beginning GH.

The odd thing is - when the Australian immigration document asks for 'evidence as to birthplace and nationality' he states British and quotes this obscure number!

Very strange - still thanks again for taking the trouble to help - much appreciated.

I am trying to find information about (*), born in Warsaw c.1928.  He was in Germany 1944-1948 (under what circumstances I wonder?) He then appears in England in 1948 and gets a British passport in 1950 (why I wonder?) and finally leaves for Australia in 1950.  I have searched the National Archives and can't find him!  I have however traced his documents in Australia!  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Hello,
If you post the info you have from the 1851 census I'll see if  I can find anything in the parish records.

Paul.
Paul that's very generous of you - thank you very much.  Please understand that I am grabbing at straws here but as Peters birth certificate only lists his mother I am not getting very far.
In 1851, I have Samuel and Martha Powell living in Bramley? Lane, Higher Kinnerton with their children Martha aged 17, John aged 16, Eleanor aged 12 and three grandsons.  Martha, John and Eleanor were born in Hope. Samuel was born in Chester (which I think I have found).  It would be great if Samuel had a daughter Elizabeth who would have been old enough to have had a baby in 1850!  In 1861 there is an Elizabeth Powell age 26 working in Hawarden as a servant, giving place of birth as Hope.....
Any help would be very much appreciated
Kind regards

Hi

I have a vague recollection of a post a couple of weeks back where one of the replies mentioned missing parts of the Flintshire census.  Not sure if it was 1841 or 1851
Thanks for the info and for taking the time to reply.

I am trying to trace the family of Peter Powell born in Higher Kinnerton 16/6/1850 to Elizabeth Powell and no father!  On the 1851 census baby Peter is living with Henry and Sarah Davison and not with his mother.  I notice from the census that there was a Powell family living in the area and wondered if Elizabeth was the daughter of one Samuel and Martha Powell.  Unfortunately I can't find any of Samuel's family on the 1841 census to confirm this.  My only conclusion is that Powell is mis-spelt somewhere and that's why I can't easily find it.  From the children of Samuel who were born in Hope, can anyone tell me where on the 1841 census to look to trawl through the names hopefully to find Samuel?
Many thanks
