hi Doidydee,
thankyou very much for replying. My g grandparents Stephen George and Hannah EDWARDS were living in St Cleers in the 1881 and 1891 census'. Unfortunately the census doesn't give a house number so I don't know just where in St Cleers they lived. My paternal grandfather Joseph Edwards was born there in 1888.

I am also interested in learning whether St Cleer's was the poor end town or whether the families there were doing OK for themselves. Stephen was a thatcher usually but one records lists him as a market gardener and yet another has him as an ag lab. So I wonder what his living conditions were.

Many thanks for giving me Nancy's details, I had not known of her until I found your message and I will certainly contact her.

hi Sue,
thankyou for doing that for me. I will look into this William further though if Minnie is his only child then she couldn't be Priscilla's child. TWay too young.
Thanks again!

hi,
William and George HOWARD were both lath-renders according to the marriage certificate. It does not say that George was deceased so I am assuming he was alive at that time. The witnesses to the marriage were George and Elizabeth DEER, the brides brother and his wife so no clues there.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / HOWARD - Willesden 1901 Census
« on: Monday 29 August 05 09:57 BST (UK)  »
I have a marriage certificate for William HOWARD who married Priscilla DEER at Willesden on Christmas Day 1891. He was aged 28 and was the son of George HOWARD.
I cannot locate William in any census 1871-1901. I believe Priscilla died in 1895, so I would like to locate William in the 1901 to see if he and Priscilla had any children.
Any hints on how to find William?

hi Chris,
don't know if you've found the answer to your question about Dartmoor st in Notting Hill. The street still exists under it's new name - Hillgate Place. I found it by checking Victorian London street directories and cross matching with modern directories. I also had rellies in Dartmoor st in 1859 so I was determined to find it :)
Hope this helps a little.

Cambridgeshire / DEER family West Wratting
« on: Saturday 09 July 05 13:50 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone else here researching the DEER family from West Wratting? George Missen DEER married Alice RICKARD at West Wratting in 1821 and they had about 7 children all born at West Wratting. Alice died 1838 and the 3 youngest children were placed in the Linton workhouse, we know this from the 1841 census. But we can't find George or his older children in the 1841 census. George reappears at Weston Colville in 1851 and he's remarried by then. Would like to hear from anyone connected to these DEERs. Surnames of the people who married the DEER children inc Trudget, Potter, Tillbrook and Davis.
