Thanks again.

My Catharine's father was John Scoggins born  abt 1789 at Headon-cum-Repson.

He was a Cotton Weaver living at Moorgate in the 1841 and 1851 census. His wife was an Elizabeth ?? born c1873 at Bawtry, Yorkshire and was a widow in the 1861 census

With the info you kindly supplied it more or less confirms Catharine's first marriage to Davenport ( who is not related to me) then later re-marrying William

Looks William marrying an Ann may be a red herring - perhaps the 1841 census relates to a sister. Will now explore that avenue.

Many thanks again for the help

Hi

thanks

Re Scoggins - it looks to me like Catharine Scoggins married a James Davenport in 1840, then possibly re-married William Allen in 1844. She again re-married again after Williams death.

Thankyou for the look up

I am researching my 3 x great Grandfather William Allen born abt 1799 at Clarborough, East retford, Notts.

In the 1851 census he was living at Moorgate, Clarborough with his then wife Catherine born abt 1814 at Clarborough and children:-

Mary born abt 1844 at Clarborough,
Ann born abt 1845 at Clarborough and
Fanny born abt 1849 at Clarborough.

In the 1841 census it looks like he may have been married to an Ann born abt 1801 Notts living at Moorgate.

I suspect the the children Mary and Ann may have been born to Ann and Fanny to Catherine but I have been unable to find any marriage information to help with these suspicions.

Freebmd does give the deaths of two Ann Allen's at East Retford - one in 1843 and one in 1847.

I believe that Catherine's maiden name was Scoggin or Scoggins or variations of.

I would welcome any info on the marriages of William Allen

Regards

CT

Hi Derek

thankyou for the baptism info, I did not have that. I did have the sibling and parent info but thanks for that as well. I had noticed that the family birth places changed in census frequently from Brampton to Barlow and vice versa.

My direct line follows Sarah's sister - Hannah bpt Brampton on 5th March 1815.

Kind regards and thanks to all for looking
