Family History Beginners Board / Trying to find a Ship
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 21:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,   I would like to know how I can find the ship my greatgrandparents went to the USA on from England.Their names were John and Emma Crook. His occupation at the time was Photographer,Hatter, and miner. He had been offered  a job in the USA as a manager in a mine after owning a coal mine in the Forest of Dean sadly when they arrived it turned out to be a hoax.  They arrived in New York with seven children with the four youngest unable to walk because of rickets. Their names were Winifred,Emeline,Gwendoline,Ada,Eleanor,John and Walter. We know they were still in Gloucestershire England by the time the 1881 census were taken so left after that because their eldest daughter Winifred died of typhoid in Rockwood Tennesse in Feburary 1882.   Regards Knebworth.
